Do you have children aged 5 to 12? Do you live in, or holiday to, Cape Town? I have discovered a wonderful resource for you to explore this city with them!
These four beautifully designed books from Young Explorers will get your kids off the couch, away from those screens and exploring the city in a way that is both fun and educational. Something that my educators heart jumps at!
This is the absolutely best resource I have come across for real learning about our special city. No, it is not a text book or an ‘activity’ workbook where one has to fill in the answers. It is far more than that, it is a guide to an adventure-filled with a range of learning experiences as you actively participate and explore the place together.
Each of the four books in the series covers a different topic. They are: ‘ Table Mountain Trail’, Lion’s Head Hunt’, ‘Waterfront Walkabout’ and ‘Company Garden Quest’.
After you choose your guide book and plan when to go, pack your back pack complete with the following items and enjoy your easy walk estimated between 2 to 3 hours.
Pack:
Water
Young Explorers Guide Book
Pens/pencils
Snacks
Cash and card for certain entrance fees and more snacks!
Wear:
Hat
Sun cream
Good walking shoes
Light jacket- just in case
The Young Explorers guide books are written by Suzie Joubert and are filled with detailed intriguing maps, stunning illustrations and enticing relevant photography.
After completing some of the Company Gardens Quest my children were thrilled at all we discovered. A truck covered in beadwork, squirrels, fountains, sundials, ancient trees and more! The best part was I could refer to my handy guide and fill them in on all the history as we went along. Hands on experiential learning at it’s best! I was learning along side them. From geography to history, biology to culture and art to technology!
These books really cover this magnificent South African city and it’s rich heritage. I have armed myself with the other 3 guides and am planning our next young explorers outing this week-while the kids on still on holiday!
The Young Explorers guides are published by Art Publishers and are available at Exclusive Books, The Book Lounge and Readers Warehouse.
Thanks to my newest contributor, Emma, for this great review for my Family section…
