The 5… Winter Jackets for every Womens’ Wardrobe

Winter has finally arrived in Cape Town. This week the rain is making up for the whole of the last year and is bucketing down around us.

But we certainly aren’t complaining, except maybe about the traffic…

The arrival of Winter has meant I’ve been doing a bit of a wardrobe audit to suss out where the “holes” are in my current selection of clothing and I’ve realised that I’m missing a few essentials for my winter wardrobe. I definitely need some new boots and a couple of jerseys.

But one of the key items for any winter wardrobe is a comfortable, warm, stylish jacket. This is the one item that you’ll inevitably reach for every single day during the colder days of Autumn and Winter.

A jacket is the item most people will see you in (as it’s usually too cold to take it off during a Cape Town winter!) and this means it’s the one item in your wardrobe that has the most power to create a powerful first impression! You need to choose it wisely!

Every Winter I spoil myself to one new jacket or coat – I know it’s the item I’m going to be wearing the most all season long, so I invest in one that I won’t mind wearing day after day. Over the years this means I build up a good “capsule” collection of winter jackets and coats to dip into – and once you have a few it means you can swop them out and not wear the same one day after day!

I believe there are 5 essential winter jackets that every women needs in her wardrobe so today I’m sharing a few of my favourite Jackets + Coats that I spotted on Superbalist.com.

Winter Ready Coats From Superbalist

1. The Puffer

The puffer jacket is king when it comes to outdoor activity jackets for Winter. You can’t attend a school rugby match without seeing this “uniform” item on display on almost every single rugby mom on the sidelines. This jacket is so popular for good reason. It keeps you super warm and that’s key during a Cape Town winter. Another plus is that the jacket is super lightweight and makes a perfect travel jacket as they can squeeze up into a tiny bundle and be stuffed inside any suitcase for instant warmth when you need it! The standard puffer colour in South Africa would appear to be black, but I would suggest you go for something bright and bold like this gorgeous red puffer from Superbalist! Love!

2. The Parka

A Parka jacket is a casual, cool option that has a young, fresh style! This is an ideal jacket for weekend wear – whether that’s hitting the streets or taking a hike. Team it with black skinnies, “Converse” takkies and a chunky knit polo neck to make the most out of this olive outerwear. Don’t you just love this colour? Perfect for transitional days from Autumn to Winter and back to Spring!

3. The Biker

Another favourite style for in-between weather days is the leather-look biker jacket. I’ve had one for the past few years and lived in it – but sadly now it’s starting to look worse for wear (sadly non-leather doesn’t last forever!) A new biker jacket will be top of my list this Winter. I love how these jackets are a little bit edgy and channel my inner rock star! Wear it to work, the school run or for a night out on the town.

4. The Bomber

Right near the top of my shopping list this season is a bomber jacket and I’ve fallen in love with this pretty Candice blouson sleeve bomber from Cotton On available on Superbalist. I love the gorgeous print and pretty colours and feel it would make an excellent addition to my wardrobe. Plus adding a burst of happiness to your Winter wardrobe is essential for a feel-good start to a grey day!

5. The Coat

A warm woollen coat in stylish camel is a classic investment piece for your Winter wardrobe that will go the distance. This gorgeous coat will ensure you look stylish, despite the weather! Everyone needs a classic wool coat in their closet and this wool trench coat is chic and sophisticated with a beautiful sharp silhouette, a double lapel and a belt for cinching in your waist. Wear over a shift dress or statement trousers and a polo neck sweater to elevate your work wardrobe with ease this Winter.

So that’s it – my selection of 5 favourite jackets and coats for a stylish Winter wardrobe. Which one (or 2) will you be investing in this season? Tell me in the comments below!
