One of the highlights of my summer staycation in Cape Town is always a visit (or 3) to the Galileo Open Air Cinema which is all about bringing movie magic to some of the Mother City’s most enchanting locations.
This modern take on the “drive-in” of old is the perfect way to spend a summery evening with friends, family or a special someone.
We were fortunate to attend the opening night of the 8th season with a viewing of “A Star is Born” under the stars at Kirstenbosch and its was the perfect kick-off to the summer season!
On this occasion I went along with my husband for a fun date night of fab food and snuggles in the dark… but this unique summer activity is an incredible family bonding experience too!
Apart from their regular screenings of rom-coms and musicals, this season there is an array of beloved family-friendly films being screened throughout the summer. From golden classics like The Sound Of Music and E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial to modern day hit animations like Trolls and Moana.
One fun family nights, the entertainment doesn’t stop there! There will also be vibey music, interactive games and an on-site mini-market serving up delicious food and snacks add to the unique experience.
Parents can relax on the luscious lawn with a glass of wine, while kids can run wild or enjoy one of the fun games on offer. Once tummies are full and fun has been had, the whole family can snuggle up for a beautiful sunset and the much-anticipated movie.
To make the most of your family experience at Galileo, be sure to book for one of the Sunday movies at Kelvin Grove Club in Newlands where there will be an extra dose of fun on offer with face-painters, jumping castles and child-minders as well as a host of activities and games to keep the kiddies thoroughly entertained – and eliminated of all extra energy before settling down for the film!
The Galileo Open Air Cinema provides an exciting solution for family outings that everyone will love, so reserve your tickets today and make time together a priority.
