Win tickets to Decorex Cape Town

Decorex Cape Town will take place over the Freedom Day long weekend (between 25th and 28th April) and it’s set to be a must-visit exhibition for anyone with plans on the home décor and design front.

Decorex SA has put together a mix of the freshest and finest exhibitors, workshops and demonstrations, feature areas, beautifully decorated home-living ideas, plus plenty of fun pop-up restaurants and bars.

Decorex Cape Town

This year, Decorex Cape Town theme is “Design your Life” and there will be a wide variety of exhibitors that promise to inspire, from fine home finishes to beautiful décor accessories, bathroom, appliance, garden and kitchen findings all under one roof.

The unlikely concept of “uncomfortable beauty” will also be on display this year, with one of the city’s most talked about design studios creating the exhibition’s entrance installation. The playful world of Sobeit exists in a giant warehouse in Muizenberg where Bartel van Vuuren and Liezle Fourie design and create in every material imaginable. It is filled to the brim with antiques, objets d’art, jewellery and the studio’s own quirky designs. Think giant dodos, vivid painted antique mirrors, golden skulls and flying skeleton mobiles. – The duo have always maintained that their mission is to make the ordinary obsolete with a collection of design pieces and objets that border on the absurd.

“There’s generally a lot of interest in travelling at the moment and this is inspiring the layered look with objects that reflect something of the person living in that space” – Greg Mellor

The spirit of global travel and a nostalgia for the exotic adventures of early explorers are some of the leading décor trends at the moment. This taste for something out of the ordinary can be seen in both décor and design trends, with retail spaces even starting to create more of a museum effect than a store front when it comes to merchandising. Cape Town interior designer Greg Mellor says it is this layering and collection of personal ‘objets’, together with block printed fabrics that has inspired the installation he will be creating at Decorex Cape Town this year. Greg is collaborating with fabric house St Leger and Viney to create the space and he has been invited to be in the prestigious “Decorex Designer Spotlight” for this year’s show.

She writes about travel, health, beauty, fashion, decor and family... but not food (unless it's food she's eaten made by someone else) as she is a hopeless cook. She only wakes up early for 2 things... a red-eye flight to somewhere exotic and early morning game drives. She has just finished an extensive home renovation and would prefer to never see another box again. She's never met a chocolate or glass of bubbles that she didn't like!
