Kathryn is a South African lifestyle blogger and mom of 2 who has been blogging daily for over 9 years! She writes about travel, health, beauty, fashion, decor and family... but not food (unless it's food she's eaten made by someone else) as she is a hopeless cook. She only wakes up early for 2 things... a red-eye flight to somewhere exotic and early morning game drives. She has just finished an extensive home renovation and would prefer to never see another box again. She's never met a chocolate or glass of bubbles that she didn't like!

  1. My parents are both my #powerpioneers. Without them and their combined sacrifices I would not be where I am today.

  2. My #PowerPioneer is Von-Mari Olivier for always striving to be a WINNER and for always encouraging me to be one!

  3. My dad is my #PowerPinoneer? He dropped out of school and faced difficult challenges within his family, but still pushed through to make a success of his life, and now ours. His will to do better and learn things has lead him to owning his own business and giving us the lives we live today. He is the best person I know and an inspiration in many ways.

  4. My parents are my #PowerPioneers they taught me to always see the silver lining in any situation

  5. I really want to start using stuff for my skin, currently I’m just washing my face with shower gel every time I take a shower, for now it’s the easiest and cheapest way for me because I’m still a student, but I know you need to look after your face from a young age because you only have one face.

  6. My #PowerPioneer is my best friend of 20 years Lara. She’s always honest anda has taught me to always look at a situation from all sides

  7. I do not think any one person inspired me greatly. My parents, of course, helped me want to make something of myself, but more recently, my child inspire’s me to want to be as good of a role model for her as I can possibly be. At the moment, I think she is a major source of inspiration for me. But overall, I get inspiration from a desire to be the best I can be, not from a desire to emulate someone else. #PowerPinoneer?

  8. My #PowerPioneer is my mom. She’s a homemaker, SAHM, took care of us and now my Dad. In the past year we’ve had to face my dad having an op, and not 2 months later a stroke, and 3 weeks of rehab and lonely nights followed.

My mom has shown me through commitment and love anything is possible, even those days you just want to crawl into a hole. Love pulled them through – now he’s retired, no more long hours, time together after 30 hard working years.

She shows me what kind of wife I want to be, the long lasting marriage I want to have and that at the end of the tunnel, the light is waiting.

  9. My mother is my #PowerPioneersshe has the ability to articulate what can be as opposed to what is. When I examine the figures of inspiration in my own life, I am struck by her ability to articulate and envision a world of what can be in contrast to what is. My mother made a difference and inspired me as I was growing up. She was a woman who had gone through many struggles with her health from a relatively young age and continued to have a positive outlook on life. She thought I could do no wrong, and I have taken the confidence she inspired in me throughout my life. If anything I would love to grow up and become a mother like her. MY mom knows how to discuss difficult topics without making it awkward and she knows how to joke around with me and the rest of my siblings. My mom is really cool but she never lets us forget she is our parent as well as our best friend. She made the biggest difference ever. And she is my hero my role model and my inspirational woman.

  10. My (late) father is my #PowerPioneer – a man of true integrity and wisdom but also a humble one…. He spread peace and joy wherever he went and brought great light into dark situations. He is my inspiration today when I’m faced with problems or difficult decisions…. I ask myself what he would do or advise me to do. With a booming laugh and twinkling eyes he changed lives and left an everlasting impression on everybody who knew him.

  11. My #PowerPioneer is my friend and colleague Natasha. She is a breast cancer survivor who is a true fighter. Diagnosed at the age of 23, she has stayed strong and has never allowed the disease to get the better of her. She has always kept her uppity demeanor and now even councils other young women fighting the battle against cancer. She is a strong, independent, self- motivated women and I love her to bits.

  12. My #PowerPioneers is Dave Lackie, he is such an inspiration in the Beauty world and his advice and guidance really inspires me for my blog. He is such a nice person and wonderful to follow on Twitter @davelackie for any beauty advice and inspiration.

  13. My #PowerPioneers is my mom Marietjie Hanekom and my dad Wiaan Hanekom. They are both such an inspiration to me. Their support and unconditional love for their children, the fact that they never put themselves first and always listen to our troubles and give advice when needed. I only hope to be such amazing parents as them one day.

  14. My #PowerPioeers is my one and only miracle son Jesse.
He’s a superhero fighting big battles … cannot walk, talk and is tube fed but always has such big smiles.
He’s taught me more about life than I could ever wish to teach him….We have thousands of opportunities everyday to be grateful.
There’s not a day that goes by that I don’t feel like the richest mom on earth …. because what I get back from Jesse no amount of money can buy!

  15. My #PowerPioneers is my one and only miracle son Jesse.

    A dream come true giveaway!

  16. My #PowerPioneer is my mom, Nikki Katz, she is my best friend, my rock, my everything. I would take a bullet for her. She is always there for me, a shoulder to cry on, a person to laugh with and share my most intimate thoughts. I could not have asked for a better mom. A truly inspiring lady whom I adore as well as the best granny to my two beautiful girls. I don’t know where she finds the energy to be the person she is. She can cook like a dream and I always get me bags, i love her to the moon and back. She is the most selfless person and is soo generous without ever asking for anything in return. The beggars by her house always wave at her when she drives past as she gives them bread etc nearly every day. I really don’t know where I would be today if i didn’t have my beautiful mom. I LOVE HER and the best part is she loves me unconditionally.
MOTHER ( muther ~ a verb : to love, nourish, protect, teach, comfort, guide, nurture, support, embrace, cherish, reassure. All the things my gorgeous MOM does.

  17. that would definitely be my parents – teaching my life lessons & how to react / respond to them

  18. My mum is my #PowerPioneer she has been through alot in her life if anyone had to go through half of what she has been through they wouldn’t be here today. Although she has been through so much she is still a strong person and is always there for others I really admire that.

  19. My mum is my #PowerPioner
She has been through so much. As a doctor who works with cancer it was ironic and hard when she was diagnosed.
She was strong and went through such a hard time but kept her beautiful spirit through it all.
She is an amazing person and gives so much of herself all my her time for those less fortunate. With all this she still makes time for her grand kids and me
I’d I can be half the person she is I would have lived a great life

  20. My #PowerPioneers are my parents and family and close friends. They are always understanding and encouraging and have made me everything I am.

  21. My mom is my #PowerPioneers because she is so strong each and every day even though her own mom is suffering from Altzeimers and Ian see how it hurts her to see her mom and her PowerPoineer fade away. =(

  22. My #PowerPioneer is my hubby. He is not only my husband but also my best friend. He is always there for me when I need him, he is my rock and my soul mate. Love him so much.

  23. I have so many power pioneers, my boss is probably the biggest power pioneer in my life. She has taught me so much, and I have so much to learn from her.

  24. I have a few #PowerPioneers in my life…but my children inspire me every day. They have the most brilliant ability to forgive instantly and love unconditionally. My little diamonds!

  25. I see Gwen Stefani as a #PowerPioneer in my life. Gwen Stefani has faced adversity and she will go on to inspire me.
Gwen Stefani is a great singer.

  26. My #PowerPioneer is my magnificent Mother, and the incredible trailblazing women of literature: Iris Murdoch, Virginia Woolf, Jane Austen and Sylvia Plath!

  27. My #powerpioneer is my midwife Sharon who has taught me so much about myself, being a woman and a mother. She continues to inspire me and I hope one day I can empower women with the same knowledge!

  28. Women (and men) who face adversity and opposition, who triumph over all the “It’ll never work” and “You don’t have what it takes” comments; Who stand up against bullies, who inspire others, who create their own destinies, who take life’s knocks and get up again tomorrow to fight another day. Women like Amelia Earhart, Rosa Parks, Margaret Atwood, my daughter, Megan… These are my #PowerPioneers and my heroes…

  29. My #PowerPioneer has and always will be my late big brother Ashveer , He always guided me , advised me and taught me all about being courageous and strong and showered me with compliments when I did something he was proud off , total encouragement . Who I am today is due mostly to him even till this day when I feel like quitting I always think of what Ashveer would have wanted for me and picture him beaming with pride

  30. My power pioneer is my mum, the one person who invested solely in my happiness, instilled in me values, to be the best version of myself , she gave me the tools to go forth and conquer life, s challenges with a positive mindset #PowerPioneers

  31. Being a teenager when my mum fell pregnant with me at the tender age of 19. Without much of a secondary education , she was not able to earn a salary to support her child . The only option was for her to marry the father of her child with a hope of a better living . Life was no fairytale for her , my dad has done peace work to support her family . During a tough time of their life ,where the only income was taken away , she discovered that she is pregnant again .Her hardship began when she was 24 years old and her husband walked out on her children and herself .Alone in a new city , she became a strong willed woman who had to fend for her children and herself . She enrolled for a short computer course which secured her a job as admin lady . My mum earning a salary of R1500 supported her children , there was many times that I remember when we could not afford the luxury of new clothes or shoes . She will spend her evenings, sewing clothes for my brother and I . This brave , courageous and independent woman has single handily grew up two children . My dear mum has instilled great values in us and the motto that hard work and perseverance will get us our heart’s desires. At 49 , my mum is currently venturing her heart’s desire of learning how to drive and in the near future a licensed driver .She is a daily inspiration to many single mothers of today .My #powerpioneer is my dear mom

  32. I think I see my in laws as #PowerPioneers! They were both born in Cyprus in the forties and came out to South Africa where they lived for many years. A few years ago they returned to their country of birth, and my father in law planted about 30 olive trees and other fruit trees in their then bare piece of land. For years they tended the baby trees, even in their old age, and now are rewarded with a return of fruit, olives and olive oil pressed locally. I just love their dedication and pioneering hearts even at retirement age! xx

  33. My #powerpioneer is my stepdaughter, for teaching me the amazing tool of finding your inner “pause” button, and handling any situation with grace! Not bad for a nearly-9 year old.

  34. My #powerpioneer would have to be anyone that has struggled a life threatening illness and overcome it. I admire many but to go through a struggle with health must be the worst.

As its breast cancer month I would say all the breast cancer survivors. ??

  35. My #PowerPioneers are my parents, my husband and 2 sons. If I tho k about it, they have all had to face adversity of some kind and all have come thru smiling and stronger than ever. Awesome people, the most precious people in my life.

  36. My 9yr old niece Skyler is my #PowerPioneer. She’s sassy, funny, sweet, brutally honest (as only a child can be!) as well as incredibly creative. Her and I spend entire weekends crafting and laughing together.

  37. My #PowerPioneer is my mum. As a single Mum she has always been there for myself an my brother she always worked extremely hard an sacrificed a lot without her I would not be who I am or where I am today. I am a strong independent person because of her.

  38. My boyfriend is my #PowerPioneer. He is my no.1 supporter and my shoulder for when I need strength. He has taught me so much about family and strength and is truly powerful. He endured so much in his life yet he is the most sparkling diamond around

  39. My precious sister Carryn is my #PowerPioneer as I can also count on her and her advice. She us a great sounding board

  40. Hi, my #PowerPioneer is my boyfriend, Kobus Visser. He’s not only my boyfriend, he’s my life partner, my confidant, my best friend , my number one cheerleader, my safe harbor , my inspiration and the reason that I can be doing what I love. We met in our first year at University in Stellenbosch and started dating in the same year and we have been together for seven years now .

In my final year my father passed away suddenly and my grandmother 2 weeks after him. To say that my world came to a stop, is the understatement of the century. He was there to pick me up, to hold my hand to comfort me. To force me to go out and see the sun, to live again. He gave me the strength and support to push through and finish my degree, when my mom was unable to financially support me, he and his family helped me. I am an only child and had a very close relationship with my dad, and losing him wrecked me, but thanks to my boyfriend I got through it. After university he put his career as a mechanical enigineer on hold to go to South Korea with me to teach english, in order for me to build up savings and we traveled through Asia . We came back to South Africa to start our life here, me as a candidate attorney and him as a mechanical engineer.

Unfortunately i soon realized that I did not want to be an attorney and he again made it possible for me to follow my dream and dedicate myself to my blog and my new job as a stylist.

My boyfriend is the most generous, selfless, caring, confident, upstanding and kind person I know. He has taught me to see the positive in any situation, to push through with anything, to talk and share my feelings, my grief, my joy and sadness. He celebrates my victories and helps me learn from my losses. He is the best thing that has ever happened to me and realize it more and more every day. He is my #PowerPioneer.

  41. My parents are my #powerpioneer. Not only did they invest a lot of time in us as younger kids, but are still supporting us and our kids now.

  42. #PowerPioneers My eldest sister is my powerpioneer. My mom and dad passed away and she is the one that keep our family together. Big family. 5 chidren and then she have her own 3 kids with three grand kids. Love her so much.

  43. beThAny, she was cyber bullied for years but yet she made her own YouTube channel and over comed her fear and she has gained a lot of self confidence and she always encourages us and gives everyone advice 🙂

  44. I have a friend who is a supermom, raising her 6 month old little boy alone most of the time, while her husband works away. She is such an inspiration as it hasn’t been easy for her. #PowerPioneer

  45. Joost vd Westhuizen is my #powerpoint. If he can go on and live his life to the fullest without fear for the next day, so can I. He showed me life is short, but life is worth fighting for ever breath you take. Life is also there to help other people, because even when you’re ill and don’t feel well, there is somebody out there who needs you.

  46. My #powerpionneer at the moment is my amazing beautiful mother-in-law. She has just found out that she has cancer (lymphoma) and is currently undergoing Chemo. She is facing it all with such strength and courage even though it has been truly hideous and she is about to loose all of her beautiful red hair. I can only hope to be half the person she is!!

  47. My #powerpioneer is my mom cause she is a strong and independent woman who taught me not sit and wait for others to give you what you want but to be a independent and strong woman myself

  48. My boyfriend is my #PowerPioneer. He’s had a rough few years both with work and in his personal life (death of his father, his mother is sick with cancer, he lost his job etc) but he’s strong and always there to help and care for other people. He shows me that life is what you make of it, and that the lows are only there to show you how good the highs are.

  49. A #PowerPioneer to me is someone who you look up to, someone that you can model yourself after. Someone who sets an example for you and someone with a good set of morals and values. My mom is this person to me. She has always been there for me, always tried to provide the best for me even in hard times. My mom has shown me right from wrong and has provided me with everything I need to succeed. She is the strongest person that I know and exhibits all the qualities of a leader and a hero. She is my role model and she has always been there for me.
Although many people have role models and idolize those that are famous I try and model myself after that of my mother. This is because she has never done wrong in my eyes. She has always made the decisions that put others first and the ones that ensure the safety and best interest of her family. That to me means that she is a very caring person. She has provided for me and my brother, as a single parent, all of the things that we have needed. There have been many other people in her situation who have quit and given up. But my mom has fought hard for our family and for me. With virtually no help from anyone else my mom has raised my brother and me. This has been a very taxing task for her and looking back upon it I am very thankful that she has always been there for me.
In addition to my mom always being there for me she has also inspired me. She has been setting examples for me to follow since I was little. She has been there to set rules for me and guide me. She as been there to catch me when I fall and to help me get back up when I need it. She has done all of this without asking for anything in return. She has done it all out of the goodness of her heart. She did it because she wanted the best for my brother and me. No one else in my life has helped me as much as she has.
She is my power pioneer because she has made me into who I am today. Without my mom I would not have had any of the values that she has instilled in me over the years. I would not know the virtues of good will and family. I will never be able to repay my mother for the things that she has given to me and the things that she has done for me. I can only one day hope to be this big of a hero for my own children.

  50. My #powerpioneer is my daugher because she is a strong determined women who works hard for what she wants in life.

  51. My #PowerPioneer is my beautiful gran who passed away 3 years ago. She still inspires me every single day to be myself, to be the best “myself” I can be and to treat people with kindness and respect. To laugh and to smile and to be “real”. She was one of the most loyal, beautiful souls I have ever had the pleasure of knowing and her legacy will continue to inspire me for the rest of my life 🙂

  52. We are surrounded by #PowerPioneers . Women in essence are exactly that. We are career women, mothers, wives, cooks, besties, girlfriends. Our lives are consumed of being something someone, so I would say being a woman is a #PowerPioneer in its own. We strive everyday to be perfectionists in all that and all that we say. Being a women is a tough job, we have to look good, feel good and always have a smile, as when we frown everyone else is down. But i love being a women, we can rock out beautiful clothing, jewellery, andf always transform ourselves. My shoutout is to all women, we are all #PowerPioneer s.

  53. My #PowerPioneer is my awesome Dad! He has been through so much – looked after my Mom when she had terminal cancer, brain surgery, heart surgery, lung problem and still he has a smile on his face every day and is now fit as a fiddle! You go Dad – you are an inspiration to anyone and everyone who knows you!

  54. As corny as it might sound, I feel my parents are my #PowerPioneers. Great role models, listeners, inspiration and sound boards for my (sometimes crazy) ideas. My mother has taught me everything I know about cooking / baking in the kitchen, and my dad has taught me all about cars, bikes and bicycles in the garage. They have taught me respect and manners and all life skill necessities. They are just all round awesome:D

  55. Honestly hubby and I are the #PowerPioneers
We forge through it all together with minimal support from friends and family. Having
twin boys has been a real challenge for us. They’re 3 years old now and honestly, we’re 3 years tired. We haven’t had a decent night’s sleep since they were born and date nights… well, we’ve had 3 this year.
So, big up to us, the #PowerPioneers keeping our household going.

  56. My #PowerPioneers are my two sons. The eldest was diagnosed with Aspergers Syndrome when he was 2 years old and has been an inspiration to me. He has more understanding and empathy than many ‘normal’ people. My youngest son was a drug addict and managed to kick the addiction on his own and has since taught himself photography. They are both awesome kids.

  57. What an awesome competition to review & prize to own.
#PowerPioneers my mother who 1st lost her parents then her husband and elder daughter and lastly her granddaughter through it all she’s breathing and still standing.

My sister who lost her daughter and not long ago the father of her child. She is still standing too.

  58. My #powerpioneer is my mom. She runs a business in a male dominant and outdoor industry and shows them who’s boss. I would love to share these products with her. The years of sun have taken their toll on her skin and she deserves to be pampered.

  59. My #PowerPioneers is my Mom, she is my ROCK! She has nurtured and shaped me into the woman I am today. Having lost my Father to cancer when I was only 4 years old, my Mom raised me as a single parent and I am in total awe of her strength, courage and tenacity to face life head on and with such a positive attitude despite what life throws at her. My Mom recently lost her own Mom, my Gran, to cancer in January this year and again she refuses to let this negatively impact on her life, but rather embraces life and remains positive through it all. She has always encouraged me in my education and to follow my dreams and has been there every step of the way and thanks to her, I am now fulfilling my dream at Varsity and finishing my 2nd year towards earning my degree in Civil Engineering. I am so grateful to her for all the sacrifices she has made in always putting me first, her unconditional love and support, her willingness to always go that extra mile for me, her generous and loving spirit and huge heart. I cannot imagine my life without her in it, she is an amazing role model and I only hope that one day I can be privileged enough to be such a great Mom, role model and #powerpioneer to my own children. My Mom once said to me when I was in my early teens “Do not walk along the narrow path of life, you need to open your mind and your heart to the endless possibilities that the world has to offer you, you need to find your passion in life and let it fuel you and never ever settle for less than you deserve” and this always reminds me to keep striving towards my life’s goals.

  60. My mom is my #PowerPioneer – she did an excellent job raising two kids as a single parent in good times and hard times. She inspires me to be tough enough to weather through rain and sunshine.

  61. My #PowerPioneers is definitely my parents. Who have have only ever put their children first before themselves…moving us all to South Africa for a better future. <3

  62. My #PowerPioneer is my father-in-law as its been 7 years of his passing and we were very close but the one one thing that stuck with me is always take a negative situation and change it for a positive?? and he is right..your life will change around

  63. my #PowerPioneer is my mum….recently going through issues with my teen son, she was and still is my pillar of strenght

  64. My mom is my #powerpioneer. She has been through many tough times in her marriage and has overcome a lot and become a strong independent women. I admire her so much.
