Last week I took my kids along for an evening of unexpected family fun…
I love surprises (well, giving them!) and kept the outing a secret for days. The whole way to the venue they kept guessing what we would be getting up to and only when we walked through the doors did they finally figure it out… Snow World!
Yes, in May! After a few seasons of Snow World happening at Canal Walk for 3 weeks during the winter school holidays, the organisers have gone bigger and better than ever with Cape Town’s first ever multi-activity snow park which will be open for 3 months – Snow World at GrandWest!
From 1 May till 31 July 2016 kids of all ages (adults too!) can experience the wonders of snow in a variety of snow fun rides and entertainment for the entire family.
For the tiny tots there is a snow play area with a real snow “touch and feel “experience, a solid ice slide at 1.2 meters high or go for a ride on the back of a friendly animal from the ice age. If you have ever wondered what it would be like to meet a woolly mammoth, now’s the chance as these animals (and a few others) are brought back to animatronic life with movement and sounds!
For the older kids and young at heart there are two larger Ice slides – one offering a nippy downward spiral of 40 meters and the other a radical dipper slide of 35m.
For the adventure junkies there is an icy “snow box” space where you can enjoy real snow tubing and snowboarding in temperatures of a chilly -3 degrees!!! (Pack your winter woolies!)
The snow box is the place to head if you’re keen to learn how to snow board as a snowboarding ticket includes a lesson and all the gear needed to try your skills on a dedicated snowboard slope. (Don’t worry Mom and Dad – you can watch through the windows on the warmer viewing deck!)
Over 18’s will enjoy the chilly Ice Bar and the whole family will be keen to warm up in the realistic Alpine village with a few warm beverages after all the fun.
A bonus for those struggling to find winter-friendly party venues in the city is that Snow World caters for kid’s parties for all ages! For the younger ones in the themed party zone and for the older ones within the Alpine village.
We all had such a blast and none of us wanted to leave even though it was well past 8pm on a school night and we still had to get home! “Just one more go” was the catchphrase of the evening (myself included!)
The good news is that I have a set of 4 tickets for one lucky Becoming you reader to spoil their own family!
