One of my very favourite nights of the year is the first summer evening… You know the ones.
An ultra hot day followed by a warm evening with clear skies, a soft breeze and a cricket or two for good measure. For me this type of evening ushers in summer and I’m usually so very ready for summer after months of cold
Luckily for me this year that first glorious summer’s evening happened to coincide quite nicely with the opening night of The Galileo Open Air Cinema at Kirstenbosch and our first date night in a VERY LONG TIME
You see during 3 months of renovations there was no time, energy, money, inclination to go out and date each other. All we wanted to do was stumble into bed. And our tiny little rental cottage was not that conducive to even asking a babysitter round. I felt bad that there was no TV for her to watch and it was FREEZING.
Anyway I digress…. Our first date night in months was wonderful. As luck would have it the movie showing happened to be one of our favourite and our best: About Time. We both love, love, love it. We don’t have many movies we both want to rewatch but this is one of them. We’ve even bought the DVD and the soundtrack so you must know we are huge fans.
It was difficult to say yes to a night with my guy, watching our favourite movie under a blanket and the stars…. and of course there was delicious food… Mexican for me, Lebanese for him!
And then we sat back to watch the show… and got a shooting star throw in for good measure! How lucky!!
OK so Galileo is one of the very best things you can do with your summer. It’s fab with your date but it’s equally awesome with a group of girls, your mom, bestie or even your whole family (yes, family nights are a thing this season!)
The line up of movies is incredible and there are wonderful classics such as Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Pretty Women & Notting Hill as well as more modern tales such as The Avengers, Snatch and World War Z.
Their are a couple of new venues this season too so you may not have to travel too far… Besides the traditional venues of Hillcrest Quarry, V&A Waterfront, Kirstenbosch there are shows taking place on various wine farms, Kelvin Grove and Noordhoek Common.
The entire line up of movies and venues is available on the Galileo website and ticket bookings are via Webtickets.
The good news is that I’m giving away 2 x double standard tickets to select shows in December right here! One lucky Becoming you reader will win a night to remember this summer courtesy of Galileo Open Air Cinema.
The winner will be able to select one of the following movies…
