What I… Lia Marus

This week I’m sharing my space with Lia Marus

This week across social media the #challengeaccepted campaign went viral with woman sharing black and white images of themselves on their social media channels.

The purpose of this campaign was not to find your most flattering selfie or thirst-trap for a little bit of self-esteem promotion, rather it was to draw attention to how we as women can help to promote and uplift each other.

This campaign is about giving women an opportunity to declare their support for other women, especially those that have – or are – suffering from domestic or sexual abuse. Or any woman who feels that they need someone in their corner to fight for them.

The idea is to raise our voices for – and with – them.

The background to #challengeaccepted is that it originated in Turkey in response to the high rate of femicide. South Africa has a higher rate of femicide!

If you want to get involved, donate or volunteer with an organisation that supports women then please do more than just post a selfie and reach out to Rape Crisis or a women’s shelter to find out how you can help. Better yet, help one woman every day. With a message of support, a donation, an endorsement, a job, a promotion. Find a way every day to lift each other up!

I’m please to say that here on Becoming you that is what I am all about and have been about for almost 10 years! Since the start of this site I’ve been trying to use my own”influence” to celebrate the incredible women I have met on my blogging journey. I love using this website to share stories about interesting women, introduce my readers to bloggers they need to read or promote women-led businesses! It makes my heart happy to know I’ve helped someone in someway!

But I digress…

Back to Lia! Lia is one talented woman with a slew of academic achievements behind her name, she currently is working towards her PhD in Applied Linguistics at the University of Johannesburg, focusing on plain language. WOW! She currently owns her own editing and writing consultancy where she concentrates on generating blogs for clients, editing manuscripts as well as theses.

What I…

Is that I need my village to do the things that I do and achieve the impossible.

Is the person that I’m becoming as I get older. I have more wisdom and insight, and am better able to handle life – far from my 20s!

Inspirational stories. My favourite reads are entrepreneurial success stories as I’m able to learn from their journeys and implement their learnings on my own.

To be able to, one day, be a person who has the abundant means to give to those in need.

Clothes from Mr Price, Pick ‘n Pay Clothing and Ackermans! One of the things that I love is shopping – going to different shops, trying on gorgeous clothes and creating different outfits. I have more fun doing it this way!

People around me who accept me for who I am. Life is too short to do otherwise.

Kathryn Rossiter

Kathryn is a South African lifestyle blogger and mom of 2 who has been blogging daily for over 9 years! She writes about travel, health, beauty, fashion, decor and family... but not food (unless it's food she's eaten made by someone else) as she is a hopeless cook. She only wakes up early for 2 things... a red-eye flight to somewhere exotic and early morning game drives. She has just finished an extensive home renovation and would prefer to never see another box again. She's never met a chocolate or glass of bubbles that she didn't like!
