Over the years my What I… blogger interview series has helped me discover so many amazing South African blogs. I’ve shared my space with mommy bloggers, food bloggers, travel bloggers, decor bloggers, fashion bloggers and beauty bloggers (and even a few dad bloggers!) I love discovering new blogs to read and follow on social media. The idea behind this series is that it would help blog readers like yourself find new blogs to delve into… people you connect with, writers you enjoy reading, friends in the internet!
For me blogging has been (and still is) a passion journey – and I think most bloggers feel the same way. Even though there are days, even weeks, when you wonder if it’s all worth it… you just keep going because you have to! The blogging bug has bit!
Today I’m pleased to be sharing my space with Kirsten who blogs over at Bird and the Beard. Kirsten is the bird and her husband, Dave, the beard. They call Cape Town home and they live there with their 2 tiny boys (one very tiny!) and a dog called Bacon. She started her blog as record of her pregnancy and their son’s childhood but it’s also a place where she likes to provide information on the things she wishes she’d known before becoming a mom and now that she is one!
Read on below to find out more about Kirsten and her sweet family…
What I…
Know…
You need to be passionate about what you do. Living a life where you dread getting out of bed each day is not a life; it’s a heart-breaking hot mess. I am an English as a Foreign Language (EFL) teacher by career and even after 15 years it still fascinates me. Now I write, edit and blog as well but each of these things makes me so happy that a lot of the time all I do when I have a quiet moment to myself is work!
Love…
My family, friends and work have to be top of this list, obviously. Bringing up a child and growing a family is such a rollercoaster and one I’m still getting the hang of but it’s what I’ve always wanted – I’m very lucky to have what I have.
Otherwise, there’s not much that can beat a cold glass of Sauvignon Blanc (Gabrielskloof is a firm favourite), a big plate of dim sum, flowers or a warm bath. I’m a firm believer in spoiling yourself when you can.
Read…
Anything I can get my hands on: novels, magazines, blogs, cereal boxes. I’m an avid reader but that sadly has had to take a backseat for a while because of life. At the moment I read blogs and magazines when I get the chance and when I can keep my eyes open.
Want…
To be able to work without having to work. Does that make sense? I totally love what I do and I always have, but it’s never been something that will make me millions (that’s what the lotto is for) and I’d love to be able to just write whatever I want without having to worry about the electricity bill.
Wear…
I’m a big fan of jeans and slops or leggings and boots. But when I go shopping I seem to buy only dresses – go figure. I’m not a heels person, much to the Beard’s dismay, but I do like making an effort when we go out at night, if I have the time!
Need…
A laptop that doesn’t weigh a ton, a decent camera and a better Internet connection; scholarships for my boys J and S to attend the schools of their choice; new golf clubs for the Beard; and a massage and a cold glass of bubbles for myself. Is that too much to ask?
