I love my What I… blogger interview series. It’s the longest running series on this site and it’s the one that has connected me to so many South African bloggers over the past 8+ years.
Today I’m sharing my space with Cape Town mom of 3, Julie Glück, who has a huge passion for exploring and showcasing her top family travel and outings.
Family and travel are her happy fuel and her blog, One Stop Wanderlust, is where she merges her two loves along with her passion for writing. She shares valuable tips and information on travel related topics and products. Having had a career in travel working for travel agencies, cruise liners and elite hotel groups around the world, Julie is well placed to speak into these topics.
Besides family and travel, some of Julie’s other life loves include her cherished cats, coffee, wine, sunshine, bling and tidiness!
I know that kindness, humility and a big dose of humour are some great ways to navigate life and especially parenting. I’m mom to a delightful and sassy 10 year old daughter plus 7 year old adorable but rambunctious twin boys. Life is chaotic. I sometimes feel like I’m a captain on the high seas steering a pirate ship with crazy little sailors that have had one too many sips of rum! I also know that 10 years into this parenting gig, my patience levels are still a work in progress.
I love my family to bits. I would however be telling a lie though if I said I didn’t enjoy quiet school mornings to get on with my work uninterrupted by endless snack requests or squabble interventions. I love all things travel and I’ve been privileged to have an exciting career history in the industry. Loving both family and travel gave rise to my family travel blog. Other things that make my heart sing are my cats, coffee, wine, sunshine and slightly on the random side, I love reindeers.
When I can keep my eyes open at night and not have to re-read paragraphs to try absorb content, I enjoy an eclectic range of genres. These range from gritty thought-provoking books by Corban Addison to more light-hearted books by Liane Moriarty. Think Desperate Housewives in written format. I also enjoy biographies and recently thoroughly enjoyed Michelle Obama’s book, Becoming. What an incredible and inspiring woman.
My passion for travel bubbles over so through One Stop Wanderlust I want to provide a fun, reliable travel and outing inspiration source for families. Separate to the blog, I want to grow my general travel related freelance space with writing, social media and marketing roles. I paused my previous business after the twins were born as going from 1 to 3 kids overnight was overwhelming. Since launching my blog a year ago, I’ve entered a new chapter in my life which is really exciting and energising.
I’m scarf and pashmina obsessed! New ones mysteriously keep sneaking into the wardrobe. I’ll sometimes pick the day’s outfit around a scarf I fancy wearing. I also love fun jewellery. Between working from home and being on half a dozen daily school runs, I’m mostly a jeans kinda girl paired with boots in winter or sandals in summer. I love an excuse to glam up properly though.
This year has thrown a few unexpected curveballs and I seriously need a little bush or beach break. Soaking up outdoor life is what recharges me, calms me and feeds my soul. When you’re away from home you get to enjoy uncomplicated family time and the kids gain life experiences and lessons that can’t be taught in a classroom.
