I have loved how blogging has opened up my world to discovering and meeting so many people I may never have crossed paths with otherwise…
Blogging really is a great way to meet like-minded people, and I’ve been fortunate to make some incredible friends during my 8 years of writing on the internet.
A couple who I’ve met in the past year is Jen & Rudolph Raath from The Married Wanderers. This typical South African couple (English girl, Afrikaans boy) first started their travel blog during their full-time travels around Southeast Asia where they backpacked for 8 months. Since then they have returned home to Cape Town, but have continued to travel locally as much as possible.
As they have both started full time work again, travel is a now seen as a necessary “fixed expense” in their budget!
As a couple, they see travel as an investment in their relationship as they are constantly learning how to be a team and how to make their marriage work. They believe that traveling together is the ultimate connection to understanding what makes each both happy, inspired, fulfilled and stressed!
Read on below to find out more about what makes Jen and Rudi tick…
What we…
Know:
Is that the world is far too beautiful not to be explored. After our time backpacking across Asia full-time for 8 months, we have come to know that time almost stands still when you travel, yet flies by when you remain in routine.
We know that the more you expose yourself to different ways of life and different groups of people and places – the faster you will grow as a person who is confident in their own skin and life choices (if that makes any sense).
Most importantly, we know that travelling together as a couple is the best investment you can make into your relationship.
Love:
Is the refreshing spray of a waterfall on our faces, the last swim as the sun sets over the ocean, a steamy coffee on a morning game drive, the comforting hug at the top of a hard hike, a good laugh around a campfire with our loved ones, those long chats about life during a road trip, and the feeling of being completely foreign in a destination or culture that’s as unfamiliar as it is mesmerising.
Read:
Lots of blog posts from Pinterest searches!!
I’m part of a book club (@the.bookbirds) and my top picks are ‘I am Pilgrim’, ’The Secret History’ and ‘The Language of Flowers’.
Rudi on the other hand sticks to his News24 articles (but I will turn him in time).
Want:
A balanced life – one where we wander the world together as much as we can, while finding the joy and excitement of home life during those in-between moments.
Wear:
Rudolph: Comfy outdoor clothes.
Jen: A mixture of outdoor travel gear and all the boho flowy dresses I can find !!
Need:
Frequent “time out from society” escapes together as couple.
We also deeply need our family, our close friend group, the ocean, cuddles from our mini wanderer/ fur child (Jack the Labrador), and all the curry in the world!!
