A few weeks back I blogged about my day spent on a Navy Vessel in Table Bay documenting the Balloon Bloke’s flight from Robben Island to the mainland with a few other press people which is where I met today’s interviewee…
Now spending 7 hours with someone usually leads to a friendly relationship upon your next meeting, but spending the same amount of time with no means of escape (you’re at sea, remember!), fighting back waves of seasickness, shivering on deck in the freezing cold mist or huddling below deck in the 2x4m lounge while drinking tea (and trying to prevent yourself from being flung across the room) and then launching yourself off the side of said vessel at sea into a rubber duck will mean you are friends for life!
This shared experience means that I feel incredibly bonded with Dawn Jorgensen, aka The Incidental Tourist! I think our shared experience will be a memory we both keep forever – although maybe not “treasure”!
Life and health and happiness are the most precious things of all. There’s beauty everywhere, all we have to do is look. The world and its creatures matter most. It really is in the simple things. We create our own destinies.
My very life, family and friends. People, Art, Photography. Imperfection. My dogs Tuscan and Dakota Storm. The wonderful opportunities that come my way. Travelling – anywhere, often. Walking, big skies and full moons. The bush. The beach. Fencing and Yoga. Shade and floppy sun hats. Picnics and outdoor concerts. Designing dream holidays for clients. Maps and Posters.
Constantly. Dark novels that all consume me viz. favourites by Charles Bukoswki, Nick Cave and Sir Anthony Sher. South African authors. American classics. At least two or three books at a time. Intelligent Life, National Geographic and Monocle Magazine. Beautifully illustrated children’s books.
To meet lots of people I love at first sight. To make a difference in the world. To go to a place I’ve never been to at least once a year. True happiness. To experience, photograph and share. More miniature tin soldiers for my collection. To see the Gorillas in the wild. A lifetime supply of bubbly and mint chocolate.
Jeans and Shorts, T-shirts and Cardi’s, silly none-sandals and shoes by Cape Town’s very own Diomande.com.
Woollies, Poetry, Country Road, Just Cruizin and other beautiful things I find along the way. Sunblock.
My leather band from Florence, a snake charm for luck, a ring that shows me hope and my signature pearl earings.
To love completely. To save the Oceans and their creatures from over-fishing. To find more space for elephants. To stop the annual clubbing of seals. To free all the Circus animals to safe sanctuaries. Music and Dance. Water. To laugh and discover and constantly learn new things that both delight and humble me. To be loved. To be free. To truly live.
