What I…

Know…

A little kindness and grace goes a long way. I also know that nothing stays the same. Life is short and precious.

Love…

People. People’s lives fascinate me. The smell of garden roses. Spring flowers especially blossoms, ranunculus and peonies. Freshly baked bread, quinces, melktert and my mother’s osso bucco. Afternoon snoozes, a dip in the ocean and weekends away with friends. Celebrations, especially Christmas and birthdays.

Read…

I read all kinds of books from Biographies to fiction. At the moment I’m reading The next 100 years by George Friedman. Books that has deeply touched me are To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden, Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini and many more. But my favourite ‘self-help’ books are How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie, I have a 1955 copy and The Five Love Languages by Gary Chapman.

Want…

I have been eyeing a Kitchen Aid Mixer for 8 years. Also a trip to Europe would not be too shabby. I would love a dishwasher and fireplace for winter, number one on my list is a sewing machine. But what I really, really want at the moment is to have enough time to read and bake. And on a more serious note, a crime free South Africa where everyone can live in harmony.

Wear…

I don’t really have a specific style. My style has changed allot since my early 20’s. Comfort is more important than trying to be fashionable. I also don’t buy as impulsively as I used to. I’ve realised that it’s a lot better to buy classic pieces and to update it with a few trendy accessories. So I will spend a little more on classics like a white blouse, boots or a blazer. But then I will update the look with a scarf or belt from a chain store. I get most of my clothes from my mom’s shop, Sash.

Need…

I desperately need new winter pyjamas. I also need a new stick blender .

What I…

Love…

I love technology and I’m a total Apple lover. I’m in love with minimalist and functional design. I love creative thinking and new business ideas. I love my husband, my family, great food, our oak dinner table and I love traveling. I also love ice cream. The real Italian kind, gelato. Always in love with ice cream. Always. And coffee. Did I mention coffee? Love.

Read…

I read on my iPad. I’m not a fast reader. I wish I was. I try to read books, but I always end up reading sections of it instead. I love business and inspirational books. One of my favourite was Screw it lets do it by Richard Branson. I also loved (and some of my absolute favourites for any small business owners) Love the killer App, The E myth and ReWork.

Want…

To always be happy. I want to see the world and want to have kids one day. And one day I want to see South America, through my camera.

Wear…

I love boots. Anything leather does it for me. I love natural tones and jeans is an absolute must. I love my leather jacket. One day I’d love to have a leather jacket in every colour possible. My style icon is my sister, Lydia. She is a fashion stylist and buyer in Cape Town.

Need…

I need more time. The only thing I really need is time. Time for emails, blogging, editing and pinterest. I need more time to visit markets, spend with my family, decorate our new home and currently I need a holiday 🙂

Kathryn is a South African lifestyle blogger and mom of 2 who has been blogging daily for over 9 years! She writes about travel, health, beauty, fashion, decor and family... but not food (unless it's food she's eaten made by someone else) as she is a hopeless cook. She only wakes up early for 2 things... a red-eye flight to somewhere exotic and early morning game drives. She has just finished an extensive home renovation and would prefer to never see another box again. She's never met a chocolate or glass of bubbles that she didn't like!
