A few weeks ago the gorgeous new hub of South African design, The Watershed, opened in the Waterfront and I managed to pop in recently to snap a few pics.
Situated on the site of the old Blue Shed, The Watershed has been wonderfully revamped to become a bright and airy space filled with all manner of designer items – from the usual South African curios to more unique pieces of South African fashion, jewellery, furniture, ceramics, textiles, gifts, art & decor.
This beautiful space is home to more than 150 tenants who represent over 365 brands. A vast selection of products can be found here from ceramics and furniture to textiles, fashion and jewellery. This vibrant addition to the V&A Waterfront also includes the Jubilee Exhibition Hall and smaller spaces which play host to world famous exhibitions, live entertainment and workshops. Not only a place to shop, the Watershed also offers a range of treatments available for your mind, body and soul which can all be found at ‘Wellness at the Watershed’ on the mezzanine level.
One of my favourite shops was the new concept store for Michelle Ludek. The space may be small but it is filled with life – this season her range features beautiful, bright fabrics and patterns in an array of yellow, blue, green and crips white!
Another space I stopped in at was a collaborative shop featuring unique South African designs – jewellery, Christmas decorations and home decor from Indegenius ZA which is made from ostrich egg shells and Jan Paul Barnard a shop selling an assortment of mohair items, including blankets, jackets and scarves.
Unfortunately I wasn’t able to stay too long so only managed to snap a few pics but I hope you get the idea and pop down there soon to take a look for yourself!
The Watershed is located on Dock Road, next to the Two Oceans Aquarium and is open daily from 10:00 – 19:00.
