After lunch in the gardens of Babylonstoren and an afternoon wandering around Allee Bleue, I headed off with my fellow blogger and family member, Fiona, to check in at our hotel. It took much longer than we expected as we were both shattered and stinky and needed a quick refresh before rejoining the rest of the group… So, when we did eventually arrive at the next stop on our itinerary, The Kitchen at Maison on the road into Franschhoek, we found we had missed out on all the food! How rude!
Fortunately I managed to convince the kitchen that we HAD to at least try the dessert that everyone else was raving about, so they made a special concession for us and I potted around snapping a few pics while we waited…
I was pleasantly surprised by this beautiful restaurant and the glorious view out from the back “stoep”. I definitely wanted to linger longer here as it was a beautifully serene scene. I’ll have to make a plan for a return visit soon when I can taste the rest of the menu!
If you’re in the mood for a feast of fromage then head over to The Kitchen at Maison between 1 – 4pm every Saturday during the month of July for a mouth-watering cheese fondue at a cost of R300 p/p (Full Fondue) or R250 p/p (Excl. Seafood).
Plated boards will be served for tables to share including pickles, carrots, sunchoke, cauliflower, gherkins, quail eggs, brussel sprouts, jalapeno, onions, fresh corn and celery. You will be able to choose from the following combinations for your fondue:
Roasted mushrooms, kreef tails and mussels
Charcuterie chorizo, mortadella and salami
Bread, lettuce and herbs for garnish
Then it was time to head off to our last destination where we were set to enjoy a wine tasting with Stony Brook Vineyards and an elegant 3 course dinner in a gorgeous private villa at La Clé Des Montagnes…
As we arrived early, we had a chance for sneak peek around the rooms of this gorgeous establishment. Each of the 4 private villa’s are decorated in a unique style and offer the utmost in luxury. This is THE place to stay in Franschhoek if you prefer to arrive on your holidays via helicopter or are in need of a gourmet chef or a private butler at your service 24 hours a day. Yes really – these are all services you can request while staying here… a girl can dream….
Unfortunatley the details of the dinner are now a bit hazy – this may have something to do with the rather generous private wine tasting we enjoyed with the winemaker while waiting for everyone else to arrive…. Ultimately it was a great evening spent with a bunch of wonderful bloggers I call friends.
