Last week I shared with you a little bit about my #SecretSunday night away in the Elgin Valley when I featured the photos of my lovely lunch at Fresh on the Paul Cluver Wine Estate. Today I’m continuing my exploration of Elgin….
After our amazing lunch we headed off to check in at Old Mac Daddy (the trailer park with a difference). We spent a few hours spent unwinding and enjoying the amazing view from our deck overlooking the lake and then headed up to the restaurant and pool area to meet the other bloggers and guests staying for the night to enjoy the #SecretSunday special. After a brief hello and welcome we were told to dress warmly and meet up at the tractor for a trip to local Cap Classique wine farm, Charles Fox.
Our interesting tractor trip saw us bouncing along through the orchards and vineyards for about 30 minutes until we arrived at the beautiful Charles Fox wine estate and headed out onto the patio for sundowners overlooking the valley. And this was incredible – easily the best South African Cap Classique out there! If you’re a bubbly girl like me it’s well worth tracking down! After a glass or two (or three) it was time to tour the cellar…
Charles himself was on hand to talk us through the different varieties of Cap Classique he makes on the farm and then he took us on a tour of the cellar explaining a bit more about the process involved in making “champagne” style wine! So fascinating.
After another glass and a few more snacks we headed back to the transfer – this time making sure we chose wisely and picking the much more comfortable Adventure Wine Tours Safari vehicle!!
