Weekend Wanderings: Beau Constantia, Constantia Wine Route

One of my favourite little weekend jaunts these days is the unsurpassed Beau Constantia… In the last three weeks I’ve been no less than 3 times… so you’ve got to know!!

I discovered this gem of a winery earlier this year when I was invited to a beauty launch there, and since then I’ve been meaning a return visit, so when it appeared on my itinerary for a day on the Constantia Wine Route recently I jumped for joy!

My delight was compounded when we arrived and were invited into the back of a bakkie, complete with wine glasses in hand, to tackle the steep (and I mean verrrrry steep) road to the top of the mountain above the farm.

Now the views from Beau Constantia are panoramic, so imagine climbing another 50 metres higher… it was BEYOND. Even the slight drizzle and chilly breeze couldn’t dampen our spirits with the glorious view stretching out in front of us – literally as far as the eye could see… basically Paarl!

And from the very top there is even an extreme golf course for the golfers looking for even more of a challenge than there usual 18…

After our extreme 4x4ing back DOWN the verrrrrry steep road, it was time to unwind with (another) glass of wine and the best sushi in town from Sushi Box. We were invited into the VIP tasting room, created from a shipping crate, where we sampled the delights of the vines below us…

And then I went back a few days later with my husband for a day time date while my kids spend the day with granny… and then again, a week later, when we had a friend visiting from overseas.

It’s pretty much become my “go to” spot for a lazy lunch or chilled catch up or just because… I mean with a view like this (and sushi like this) why would you go anywhere else??

As they say in the movies…. “I’ll be back” 😉

P.S. Unfortunately I’m not the only one who thinks this spot is awesome so you may struggle to get a seat unless you book in advance, and even if you do try to book days in advance they may be full… so basically book in advance, or rock up, like we did, and hope for the best, but be prepared for disappointment!

She writes about travel, health, beauty, fashion, decor and family... but not food (unless it's food she's eaten made by someone else) as she is a hopeless cook. She only wakes up early for 2 things... a red-eye flight to somewhere exotic and early morning game drives. She has just finished an extensive home renovation and would prefer to never see another box again. She's never met a chocolate or glass of bubbles that she didn't like!
