Family lunch at Sugarbosch Bistro at Webersburg Wine Estate

We love heading out to the Winelands for the day to explore a new wine farm and recently we were invited for lunch at Webersburg‘s Sugarbosch Bistro which was a wonderful excuse for a drive out on the N2…

Nestled beneath the slopes of the Helderberg Mountain between Stellenbosch and Somerset West, Webersburg is a family owned and run boutique wine estate.

The setting is unparalleled in terms of scenic beauty. My 9-year-old son, Ben, declared this to be “the most beautiful wine farm” he has visited!! Funny boy… He is a true little foodie and I’ll soon have to start his own blog for all his food observations and reviews as his palette is far superior to mine!

Ben was in fact very accurate in his description. The farm is a glorious heritage establishment with a historic Manor House, towering oak trees and panoramic mountain and vineyard views.

After a short walk around the farm’s beautiful Cape Dutch buildings, we were seated by our friendly waiter. Our table over-looked the farm dam and Helderberg mountains, and we settled in to enjoy our lunch…

For starter’s we ordered a Sesame Crumbed Chicken salad and the Webersburg Snack and Wine platter which was served with a glass of wine.

For main’s I ordered the vegetarian Beetroot, Basil and Feta Burger and my husband the Sirloin steak which was served with a side order of chips, a fresh side salad and a sauce of his choice. The food was wholesome, albeit somewhat disappointing in terms of flavour and freshness.

The dedicated kiddies menu had a small, but popular, selection. Our kids both ordered burgers and chips followed by a dessert of ice cream lollies with sprinkles.

The highlight of our meal at Webersburg, however, was the the dessert menu!

This is where the kitchen really shone. Their decadent delights of delicious butternut and carrot cake and an indulgent Eton Mess-style dessert of ice-cream, meringue, cream and strawberries, meant we left with a sweet aftertaste of our afternoon at Webersburg. We’ll definitely be back for more of their teatime treats!
