Sunday afternoons are made for relaxing aren’t they?! And what better way to do that than with a Gourmet Picnic at Warwick Wine Estate. Recently we spent a few leisurely hours wining and & dining under the oak trees and then lolling around on the lawn lapping up this heavenly experience…
I had heard many amazing things about the Warwick Picnic experience but never got to experience for myself and I now that I have I am wondering why it took me so long! It really is one of the best ways to spend a day.
We arrived for lunch at 11:30 which meant we could enjoy a leisurely stroll around the grounds exploring the various picnic pods and amazing kids facilities before heading off in the huge 4×4 for a “Wine Safari” around the estate to find out more about their “Big Five” grape varieties – a really fun experience for young and old!
After this scenic wine tour with a difference we arrived back at The Forest Courtyard to long tables laden with delicious food and another glass of wine!
Warwick has a well-deserved reputation for their Gourmet Picnics – every item on the menu was beautifully presented in Consol glass bottles or recyclable containers. The fresh, quality ingredients are all made from locally sourced artisanal suppliers and the food was plentiful!
The menu consisted of…
Pickled beetroot, pecan nut, goat’s cheese, quinoa and wild rocket salad
Gazpacho salad with chilli and garlic dressing
Grilled beef tagliata with aioli and truffle oil
Proscuitto, melon, bocconcini and basil skewers
Ricard Bosman coppa
Forest Hill baby grand brie
Healey’s Mature Cheddar
Loved Ponies Three fruit marmalade
Vanilla cheesecake with mixed berry compote (seriously yummy!)
And the kids were catered for with their own children’s picnic – a box juice, hamburger and crisps with a few sweet treats.
Picnics can be eaten at the long tables in the Forest Courtyard or on the huge grassed area under umbrellas. These picnic spots come with picnic blankets, movable picnic tables and the best part – huge cushions to relax against or lie on! There are also a variety of jungle gyms and plenty of space for the kids to run and play – including the ever popular water fountains and pool – all bound to keep the kids content so you can enjoy the peace and serenity of the surroundings!
The other awesome option is to set up your picnic in one of the 8 picnic pod – these were created created with privacy in mind and provide a perfect escape for your party with tables seating up to 12 people. Scattered among the pods are jungle gyms for the kids, while there are also sections that offer privacy for those looking to escape the kids!
After savouring all the delicious food we migrated our bodies over to the comfort of the cushions and proceeded to lounge around chatting and sipping on delicious Warwick Wine. The comfort was such that almost every member of my family proceeded to have a little nap in the sunshine! It really was a heavenly afternoon and we will most certainly be returning soon!
A Warwick Gourmet Picnic would make the ideal location for a corporate event, family outing, birthday party or even a relaxed wedding with a difference! Booking in advance is recommended.
