There are so many beautiful places that we get to experience on a regular basis living in the Western Cape. This part of the world really does deliver on every level… mountains, forests, winelands and, of course, the sea! Except sometimes we take it forgranted… and every day whizzes by without us giving a second thought to the beautiful nature that surrounds us, let alone taking some time out to actually enjoy it!
Which is why I was so pleased when we found ourselves waking up early a few Saturdays back in the seaside town of Hermanus, ready to take on the Walker Bay Xtreme Pirate Walk challenge!
Getting to walk along the cliff paths with the beautiful fresh sea air in our lungs, stretching our legs and having fun as a family was such a special way to spend a Saturday morning!
With some resistance I managed to convince EVERY member of the family to dress up as pirates to really get into the spirit of the event… and then we set off in search of “treasure”…
Along the 5km route the kids stopped to read clues and learn about the importance of nature and conservation from “real pirates” who then handed out handfuls of “treasure”…
My kids loved the sweets, I loved the time with them enjoying the views across Walker Bay, so it turned out to be much fun… for everyone!
Keep a look out for the next Pirate Walk to take place during the Walker Bay Xtreme event taking place from 28 – 30 April 2018.
