I love spending time with my family… you might have noticed that if you’re a regular reader!
One of our very first outings as a family of 3 almost 10 years ago (before the advent of this blog!) was to the Wacky Wine Festival in Robertson. I have such happy memories of a weekend spent in the valley enjoying the festivities. My husband was there for work purposes but myself and my first born found it to be a really fun experience – tractor rides, live music concerts and a last minute scramble for accommodation that found us spending the night in a caravan are some of my last memories!
This year see’s the 14th Wacky Wine Festival taking place! Once again the weekend promises to be great fun for the whole family….
More than 40 wine estates, boutique wineries and tourism establishments from the Ashton, Bonnievale, McGregor and Robertson region will be taking part in the Wacky Wine Festival (taking place from 1 – 4 June 2017)
There is something for everyone at Wacky Wine, even the kids will be thoroughly entertained. I’ve rounded up 5 of the best Family-friendly activities taking place during the event…
1. Kids Activities
The Robertson area offers plenty of fun for the whole family. Take a relaxing boat cruise down the Breede River. Enjoy lawn games, giant chess and interact with farm animals. Visit the biggest red chair in Africa and stroll through a flag labyrinth which paints a picture of the world!
2. Wine Farm & Cellar Tours
Embrace country life with farm tours and tractor rides. Embark on a 4×4 Vineyard trip through pomegranate groves to the top of the mountain overlooking the valley or explore the recently discovered Muskat caves.
3. Outdoor Sporting Events
The whole family can bring along their mountain bikes for a scenic MTB challenge, or the kids can ride alongside their folks for a 5km run through the vineyards.
4. Live Music
Music across a range of genres will be on offer at this year’s festival from Afrikaans, Blues, Folk to Country Rock and Classic. Festival goers will get to experience an authentic theatre event, comedy evening and wine and dine with the locals.
5. Fabulous Food
Mouth-watering food will be on offer to tickle your taste buds – from citrus, fudge and truffle delights to boerewors, artisanal pastries and handcrafted cheeses. Warm up with hearty soups, roosterkoeke and potjie. Enjoy freshly baked bread with home-made jams. Indulge in farm style breakfasts, fresh produce and family recipe dishes. You can even opt to create your own picnic basket for lunch by selecting from an array of local olives, cheeses, handmade artisan charcuterie and preserves.
