Weekend Wanderings: A stay in the newly revamped Vineyard Suites at La Petite Ferme

If you’re looking for a town to enjoy a romantic weekend away then Franschhoek is pretty hard to beat! We love escaping to this little haven of food and wine with a French twist and head here as often as we can (and as often as grandparents will have our offspring!)

Recently we had the chance to spend a night at one of our favourite Franschhoek spots – La Petite Ferme. We’ve spent a few special occasions here in the past enjoying lunch overlooking their panoramic view, but we had yet to spend the night and so we jumped at the opportunity.

A Luxurious Romantic Retreat at La Petite Ferme

La Petite Ferme is primarily a wine estate and award-winning restaurant, however they also have a luxury boutique hotel and at the end of 2018 they re-launched their newly refurbished Vineyard Suites.

We arrived around check in at 2pm (not wanting to waste a moment of what would be very precious time together in stunning surroundings) and were welcomed with a delicious drink of our choice from their wine selection.

After completing the paperwork we stepped outside and soaked in the iconic La Petite Ferme view – I’m certain it is one you can never tire of!

We had a quick peek at their new wine tasting lounge… vowing to return to soak in the experience of this space on a less sunny day!

Refurbished Cottages at La Petite Ferme

The beautiful cottages that make up the Vineyard Suites at La Petite Ferme are tucked beneath the slopes of the Franschhoek Mountains. Each one has a private terrace offering spectacular views over the vineyards and valley beyond as well as a private plunge pool and day-bed giving guest the space to relax and soak in the view at their leisure.

After three months of extensive renovations, the exteriors of the Vineyard Suites remain Cape Vernacular in style in keeping with the heritage of the wine farm and the area, but with a few modern updates.

The interiors of the cottages are now simple, yet stylish. The colour palette used in the Leman Suite is contemporary and fresh, creating a modern space that is comfortable and luxurious.

In a nod to the Huguenot heritage of Franschhoek, this suite reflects the blue colors of the lake of Geneva and was inspired by Monet’s watercolours.

I loved the beautifully designed interiors, plush furnishings and gorgeous art…. a stunning display of local flowers and complimentary bottle of wine added to our enjoyment of this stylish space!

We stayed in the gorgeous Léman Suite which has a private lounge area with TV, fireplace and coffee making station, an ample king-sized bedroom and a beautiful bathroom fitted with a luxury bath, a walk-in shower and modern fittings in bold black that stand out against the feature wall of beautiful handmade patterned tiles in the softest blue.

Sadly, due to water restrictions, I couldn’t relax in the bath with a glass of wine, but I was still able to enjoy a shower with uninterrupted views over the valley!

Vineyard Wine Tasting at La Petite Ferme

After celebrating our arrival at this little slice of heaven, it was time to toast with a glass of the estate’s finest wines.

The Franschhoek area is well known for producing exceptional top quality wines and La Petite Ferme prides itself on being a small and intimate boutique style cellar.

The winery offers a full range of wines which includes red, white, rosé and Method Cap Classique.

As my husband, Brad, is a wine fanatic we requested to enjoy a personal Vine Orientation which included an informative walk and talk through the La Petite Vineyards led by Wine Guide, Spencer, as well as a wine tasting experience of 6 varietals overlooking what must be one of the most beautiful views in the world! It was truly memorable.

Dinner at La Petite Ferme

In addition to accommodation, La Petite Ferme, is home to an award winning restaurant. We’ve had the privilege of dining here for lunch a few times, but had yet to manage to make it here for dinner. What a pleasure it was to just stroll up from our suite and across the lawns to a table for two overlooking the twinkling lights of the Franschhoek valley!

Head Chef Kyle, Sous Chef Maveer and their talented kitchen love experimenting with various flavours, ingredients and textures to create an authentic menu showcasing seasonal produce from the area. This is country cuisine served with a fresh contemporary touch.

And what bliss it was, after indulging in four courses of the finest food we’ve ever eaten, to roll down the hill into our enveloping bed… fortunately the romantic dining experience making up for any further romantic inclinations!

Breakfast at La Petite Ferme

After a restorative night’s sleep in the silent darkness of the countryside, we awoke refreshed and ready for one last meal at La Petite Ferme – breakfast!

But first…. peacocks!

Yes, on our way up to enjoy the breakfast buffet we stumbled across a few of the locals spending time amidst the vineyards in the fresh morning air!

What a treat – a peacock tail display to start the day!

Followed by a delicious spread of continental breakfast options and rounded our with Eggs Benedict with salmon – my favourite!

A stay at the Vineyard Suites La Petite Ferme is surely romance on another level.

With gorgeous accommodation, private space, breathtaking views, indulgent food and sublime wine all on offer at one location it’s hard to even consider leaving the premises – and why should you? This is a destination in itself – one of pure luxurious romance.

The perfect place to enjoy a romantic rendezvous for two! We certainly #lovelapetite
