I’m a huge fan of shopping at markets and love nothing more than a few leisurely hours strolling among the stalls and browsing the beautiful goodies! Now add to that a Christmas theme and I’m a goner! I LOVE a good Christmas market and when living in the UK even took day trips to Europe to visit their fantastic Christmas markets! Lille, France was a favourite!
Well you’ll be pleased to know you don’t have to travel to Europe for a good Christmas market! These days markets take place in every corner of the country each weekend… And now in the run up to Christmas a few of our old favourites are holding special Christmas themed markets! Hooray!
The popular Treasury Market in Stellenbosch is one such place – this little boutique market showcases locally made products and runs alongside the hugely popular Stellenbosch Slowfood Market hosted at the Oude Libertas in Stellenbosch. It was born out of a passion for high quality, affordable, handmade goods and as a platform for the amazing designer-makers out there. Treasury Market will be hosting a Christmas market on the 1st and 15th of December . I can’t wait to pay them a visit – what a great way to spend a day with the family while also finishing off my Christmas Shopping….
The Christmas Markets on Dec 1 and Dec 15 will have an incredible line-up of goodies on sale including fashion by local designers; a tempting selection of silver jewelery, as well as a more contemporary perspex, wood and leather jewelery; bags and accesories; handprinted tableware; locally handmade perfume according to 16th century French tradition; vintage upcycled furniture; artworks and cards printed on a letterpress machine.
For kids and babies: there will be the cutest knitted animal beanies; a great variety of kids clothing; the coolest soft toys; superhero costumes; artworks, mobiles and nursery/ childrens room decor. There will even be a pop-up photo studio provided by a photographer who takes the most beautiful arty pics of kids with vintage props – the perfect gift for Grandparents! All these items are lovingly crafted and sold by the designer-makers themselves, NOTHING made in China, India or Thailand here!
The market this Saturday (1 December) will also be the Treasury Market’s first birthday so will be the perfect time to plan your first visit if you have not yet popped by – who knows what treasure you may discover at the Treasury Market!
