There’s nothing ordinary about Ordinary Skincare!

As a fan of natural beauty products I’m always on the hunt for products that fall into this category that I can use in my own beauty regime. Obviously I know there are so many of my readers that are also keen to switch to more natural or organic products in their own homes so I love sharing these finds with you here!

Today I’m very pleased to be able to tell you about a new skincare range that has arrived in South Africa. Ordinary Skincare Co are the suppliers of the Plainordinary© and Extraordinary© skincare ranges. They offer “honest” skincare products that are especially aimed at those with sensitive skins.

Ordinary Skincare founder Dr Claire Jamieson is a well-known South African doctor, who pioneered the Well Woman programme in South Africa. Her popular weekly appearances on “Woman’s Hour” addressing a broad range of health issues, and her more recent involvement in aesthetic medicine, give Claire unique insight into what we all need to care for our skin – and this is what Ordinary Skincare Co provides. She knew when it came to skincare,  that everyone is unique and so many people are confused about what is “best” for them so she wanted to create a range with four key elements:

• A simple range
• Using the best nature can offer
• With safe modern materials where necessary
• Delivered in hygienic, recyclable packages

We believe in offering products that work, are safe, and that marry the finest that nature offers with the best of modern science. Our products are made to pharmaceutical industry GMP standards in new facilities in Cape Town. We use ethically sourced ingredients carefully chosen for their efficacy.

There are currently 4 products in the range which are detailed below:

Day Cream – R302.05
An effective moisturising cream for everyday use. It is rich in herbal anti-oxidant ingredients: Green Rooibos, Grapeseed oil, Olive oil and Shea butter that soften and smooth the skin and help inhibit ageing. Co enzyme Q10 provides further anti-oxidant protection and anti-inflammatory performance.

This cream is a lovely everyday moisturiser and I love the very simple, plain formula and fragrance.

Day Cream SPF30 – R284.42
This is the same as the cream above just with an added sun protection of SPF30. It contains natural herbal antioxidants Green Rooibos and Grapeseed oil together with the exceptional moisturising properties of Olive oil and Shea butter plus Co Enzyme Q10 is added to provide additional anti-inflammatory and antioxidant protection that softens and smoothes the skin and helps inhibit ageing. The sunscreen protection of SPF30 helps to prevent the damaging effects of solar radiation.

I have been using this cream daily for about 10 days and have been loving it. Even my husband commented on how much he loves this cream and he is one tough customer when it comes to skincare products and avoids any products that leave him feeling greasy so this one obviously cracks the nod. (He has obviously been sneaking my cream when I’m not around, there’s no way I would be sharing this product with him!!)

Night Cream – R306.31
This is a deeply nurturing night cream with intense moisturising properties. It contains ingredients that enhance the skin’s sleep-time repair mechanisms and is rich in anti-oxidants, which work by helping repair the elasticity and tone of the skin. It also contains Avocado and Evening Primrose Oil for extra nourishment!

This has been a lovely addition to my night-time regime and I have still felt the effects on my skin the next morning.

Moisturising Balm – R328.65

Perfume-Free Care for Dry, Sensitive, Hardworking Skin this balm is formulated with just 5 ingredients (Vegetable wax, olive wax, grape seed oil and beeswax.) to provide a lasting effect for even the driest, most sensitive skins. Contains no preservatives, no petrolatum derived products, no SLES products, and no fragrance and is super safe to use for eczema, psoriasis and other related skin conditions.

A little goes a long way with this super nourishing balm. The texture is more greasy but this makes it an excellent lip balm, a great make up primer, perfect for cracked heels & elbows, baby bottoms, sunburn, chapped skin,  razor burn and for those who suffer with eczema & psoriasis. The balm sinks in and leaves a long-lasting silky feel.

What is great about Ordinary Skincare is that none of the ingredients are tested on or derived directly from animals. (However, in some formulations animal-friendly ingredients, such as beeswax, are used.) All products are suitable for vegetarians. The company is passionate about responsible sourcing and factors such as performance, sustainability, ethics and organic practices are researched to determine the best source for their products.

Another aspect I love is the airless packaging, not only does this mean that you use the entire amount you buy but that your product is kept free of bacteria and therefore lasts longer! The all plastic airless system has certified recyclability because it is composed of only one plastic family of plastics, polyolefin. It is well adapted for organic cosmetics because of the conformity of the materials (positive ECOCERT material list) and protection of low preservative formulas.
