Full steam ahead: All aboard the Jail Break train to the Breedekloof Wine Valley

The Ceres Rail Company has become widely known for their weekly steam train trips from Cape Town to the Elgin Market in Elgin. A year ago there wasn’t a market, nor a steam train going there, but in 2019 together these two experiences thrived!

Now in 2020 The Ceres Rail Company are launching a brand new experience!

One 28 March 2020 the Jail Break train will set off for the Breedekloof Wine Valley where all aboard will visit the Hanepoot Market Day at Mountain Ridge

This is an exciting NEW collaboration between the Ceres Rail Company and Breedekloof Valley.

The beautiful old steam train will depart from the V&A Waterfront at 07:30 and head to Mountain Ridge Cellar in the Breedekloof Valley where it will arrive around 11:30. Guests will then have 4 hours to enjoy the Hanepoot Market Day at their leisure, where activities will include live music, old school ‘druiwe trap’ and delicious wine and food from the valley, before departing for Cape Town at 14:30 and arriving back by 18:30.

The journey will follow the railway line from Cape Town via Wellington and on to Worcester. Built in 1864 during a depression, the railway cuts through “Bushman’s Rock”, also known as ‘The Pulpit’ in the Tulbagh kloof, creating the ideal gateway to the Breede Valley. One of the most scenic sections on the Cape Mainline you will experience majestic mountains and verdant valleys along the route.

The whole trip promise to be a very unique experience and we can’t wait to hop aboard a vintage steam train to enjoy a few hours of captivating scenery and great conversation, not to mention a couple of glasses of complimentary wine! The Jail Break train is named after one of Mountain Ridge’s wine collections – a range of exciting and adventurous wines from the vineyards of the Breedekloof Valley.
