Last week I was fortunate to be invited to the opening of one of the most exciting new stores in town!
The Good Batch at Canal Walk
This beautiful new epicurean emporium takes its’ inspiration from Middle Eastern food bazaars… Step inside and you’re surrounded by beautiful bright colours, artisanal creations and tempting aromas!
A veritable treasure trove, The Good Batch is the place to head when you’re looking to treat yourself or someone special. Bags of fresh nuts, trays of chocolate treats, baskets of dried fruit, bottles of colourful sweets.
There is so much to see (and taste) that initially it can be quite overwhelming, but stick around and you’ll soon get swept up into the hedonist experience of good taste. Such good taste!
From the beautiful decor to the exquisite food offerings this is a taste experience like no other!
Arriving at the entrance of the shop you’ll be ferried inside by a friendly assistant who will guide you towards you preferred station (or all of them!)
Here everything is sold by weight so plunge your scoop into a pile of nuts, curate a selection of delicious chocolate truffles or create a unique gift box filled with a selection to suit the personality of the receiver!
Everywhere you look, from floor to ceiling, there is an array of hand-picked delights sourced from around the world….
From famous Middle Eastern halva to Italian biscotti, Turkish figs and South African biltong as well as my personal highlight, the American peanut butter cups, this is a sensory sensation.
Some of the the items on the shelves that are worth looking out for include nuts (raw or roasted in-store), truffles, pralines, chocolate salami, old-fashioned bonbons, nougat and fudge. Delicious dried berries, fruits, seeds and biltong. Handmade, just-baked biscuits and cookies. Not forgetting their ice-creams, peanut clusters, granola and traditional marshmallow!
And if you’re getting thirsty try their freshly roasted coffee or order a glass of their kombucha! It’s amazing.
The Good Batch is a family-run business, the brainchild of Alexi Hadjidakis.
“We drew inspiration from far and wide, locally and internationally, to bring the very best into one place for South Africans who enjoy gourmet snacks” – Alexi Hadjidakis.
The first store opened in Canal Walk, Cape Town, on 18 October and there are plans to open their next store in Cavendish Square in March 2019!
Pop in to this foodie heave soon and discover a whole new world of tastes, smells and textures!
