Tech Talk: 7 Gadgets for Girls

I’m not usually a gadget girl… I leave that task for the 2 boys in my life, but every now and again I realise just how handy these new pieces of tech actually are and just how much they are helping to improve our lives!

And now there are certain gadgets I just can’t live without…

So today in my Tech Talk series I’m sharing 7 Gadgets for Girls that I’ve become quite fond of in recent months. I think you’ll find every one of these 7 Gadgets a useful addition to your own lives too.

Gadgets for Girls

Bluetooth earphones

The thought had never crossed my mind to listen to music or a podcast while at the gym. I just thought that the gym music was acceptable. Enter the Anker SoundBuds Sports Bluetooth earphones.

These are great for wearing on a run or to the gym and this means you can actually choose the playlist that works best for you! Plus there’s no cable to get tangled up in while you are exercising. They offer great sound and do a great job of sealing the ear which means there’s no need to turn up the volume to drown out the ‘outside noise’, thus saving your hearing in the long run!

Features: Water resistant / 6hrs playtime / Built-in Microphone / Secure fit/ Superior Sound
Great for: Listening to podcasts while exercising.

Car phone holder

Man, driving round using Google Maps while my iPhone balanced on the front of my dashboard was a pain, until I noticed a friend had a really handy gadget in her aircon vent that held her phone in place while she was driving. I had to have one too!

The Kenu Airframe is a legendary piece of convenience that clamps into the vents of your aircon and lets your phone float on the dash allowing you to use your phone as a SatNav, to listen to music or to speak hands-free.

Features: Fits phones up to 7.4cm wide/ fits all air vents
Great for: Having hands-free conversations with Siri
Price: R299 (currently on sale, usually R399) at iStore

Extra-long charging cable

As a family we travel a lot and road trips are often our chosen mode of transport. The problem is with the four of us in the car, all using devices for one purpose or another. From my husband’s iPhone playing music to my social media needs, my sons’ Minecraft addiction and my daughters’ downloaded series on the iPad…. as you can imagine the charging the demands are endless. Then throw in the fact that there is only one charging point in the car and none of the charging cables can be stretched to the back to allow the kids to continue with their silent entertainment (quite key in a car trip) You can imagine the nightmare scenario that can unfold pretty quickly!

Enter the USB Cable with Lightning Connector…yes, yes, I know we aren’t in JHB, BUT the good part with this charging cable is that it’s 2m long meaning it can reach all the way to the back of the car so the kids can continue playing when their devices die. And that saves everyone’s sanity, because goodness knows that kids never run out of battery power!

Features: 2m long/ Rugged strain relief for enhanced durability/ Protection against lightning strikes/ 3 year warranty
Great for: Charging devices in the back seat!

Power bank battery pack

Blogging is an amazing hobby that’s recently been turning into a more full-time gig. Paid jobs and amazing trips are part of the perks, but the reality is that it’s still a job – even if it looks like I’m just swanning around another wine farm! There are deliverables that have to be met and on very busy press days a bloggers’ worst nightmare is running out of battery life at the most critical part of the itinerary. No battery = no pictures = no social media = no story!

Enter the MiPow Power Tube 3000. This is a literal life-saver! It’s a beautiful and convenient battery pack that has a built-in charging cable (so no tangled cords getting wrapped around your keys in your handbag!) Plus it’s great quality which means it lasts longer, and charges properly. I’ve had plenty of cheap battery packs in the past and they don’t ever go the distance! This is an essential for my handbag – and even if you aren’t a blogger it’s a useful device to have to hand when you aren’t going to be near a power outlet for a while.

Features: Built-in Cable / App Control
Great for: Charging on the go
Price: R699 at iStore

Extra strength charging cable

So here is a question… How many of you have had your new cell phone charging cable start fraying at the connection point only to be sticky taped together and look terrible? Or maybe your charging cable has been ravaged by a new puppy or inquisitive toddler? Most of us have charging cable woes…. This gadget is for you.

Human Proof. Pet Proof. Everything Proof, the Fuse Chicken Titan Rose+ 1.5m is made from reinforced flexible steel and is indestructible!! The toughest charging cable on earth comes with a lifetime warranty so you’ll never have to buy another charging cable again – unless you change your phone of course!

Features: Built-in Cable / App Control / 1.5m
Great for: Puppy-proofing your phone charger

Key locator

If you ever need to find your phone or need your phone to find your keys, then the Chipolo Classic is a useful piece of tech that’s here to save you the stress!

Simply attach the Chipolo to your keys. Then install the app on your phone. Finding your phone is as easy as clicking the Chipolo twice and listening for the alarm sound (it will sound even if it’s on silent!) and with it’s 92 decibel melody it’s easy to hear even from another room! If you’ve lost your keys, then simply use the app on your phone to locate your keys. Viola! Another handy tool from this gadget is that the app will even help you to see where last you had your phone on the map. And if you’re not someone who misplaces your keys, but can never find your wallet you can use this hand gadget for locating that instead, just slide the small disc inside your wallet.

Features: Built-in Cable / App Control
Great for: Locating lost keys!
Price: R499 at iStore

Tempered glass screen protector

As a somewhat clumsy phone user one of the most NB gadgets to invest in on purchasing a new phone (aside from a phone cover) is a tempered glass screen protector.

When I upgraded to the new iPhone 6s a few years ago, I invested, in one and it literally saved me a lot in terms of money and my marriage 😉

Not two weeks had passed after purchasing my new phone (might I add my very own NEW phone – not a hand-me-down), when I somehow cracked the screen. It had something to do with a tractor ride – don’t ask! Obviously my husband was delighted with me, a sleepless night ensued… And then the next morning, upon closer inspection, it turned out that I had just cracked the screen protector and not the phone itself!!! My tempered glass had taken the impact and shattered, leaving my iPhone screen intact! Whew!!! A life-saving gadget if ever there was one!

Great for: Saving your screen
Price: R299 at iStore

  1. Fleeep! That car finding gadget sounds amazing! Might just have to invest in that!!! Do you have a suggestion for a phone tripod or something as I am battling to find something useful. There is the gorilla thing but its legs are uber short?

    1. Hi Kari! That chipolo gadget is the biz! I’ve often thought something like that would be epic and now, thanks to technology, it’s here! I use the Gorilla tripod but have also invested in a dji Osmo for Mobile but that’s more for using your phone for video and a bit pricey if you’re just wanting it for pics!
