What I… Taryn from Keeping your Sanity

I recently discovered a beautiful new blog dedicated to moms called Keeping your Sanity… rather opt really!! The author is Taryn who lives in Cape Town with her two crazy boys, a dog, a cat and a husband of 12 years!

She blames her wanderlust on her parents who literally wrote a book about their extensive travels through South Africa and the surrounding African countries. They would drive thousands of kilometres every year, exploring, photographing and documenting every city, town, and village. (Not a bad childhood if you ask me!!)

She also loves anything artistic and creative, dressing up and killing spiders (OK maybe you should read her About page for elaboration on that last one!)

But first, read on below for more about Taryn…

What I…

That I definitely don’t know everything, and that people who think they do, usually know even less. There’s no substitute for hard work, but living for the “next thing” is a good way to wish your whole life away. That no one appreciates what they have until it’s gone, but I’m working on that one!
Everyone is unique and they experience the world from their point of view. Each moment lived shapes who they are and how they see things, so it’s impossible for anyone to understand how another person feels or experiences anything. People should keep this in mind with they feel the need to pass judgement on another person, and rather just stay in their own glass house and work on showing more love, understanding and respect for others.
People make mistakes. No one is perfect. Give yourself and everyone else a break.

In no particular order… I love the colour green, 90’s action movies, 80’s rock’n roll, rollercoasters, taking photographs, doing art, travelling, makeup, wine, food (glorious food!), making people laugh, sarcasm, Cape Town, getting dressed up, my friends, Pandora (not the woman with the jar), shoes, adventures, animals, writing, making lists, watching series, sunglasses, oh and did I mention Travelling?
Most of all though, I love my two gorgeous mischievous boys, my husband of over 12 years, and my fur babies Cash (cat) and Muffin (dog).

Sigh… I remember when I had time to read and enjoy actual books. Before I had two boys to chase around incessantly. If I ever get the chance to read I’ll always choose a book of the thriller, horror, crime, creepy variety. I love reading blogs, connecting with people through their writing. I google everything, I love learning new things, researching ideas and hunting for hidden gems!

Whenever my kids whine about wanting things I say: “Yeah and I want a Range Rover, but that’s not gonna happen either!” So I guess the obvious answer is… a Range Rover, ha ha ha. Besides that? I want to be able to live off of doing what I love, doesn’t everyone? I want to see the world, experience it and capture it through the lens of my camera. I want to ride every rollercoaster in the world… That would be the perfect “job”. Really short term? I know it’s only been 4 months, but I really want to get to 1000 followers on Twitter

Robertson - Day 1

Jeans. I love clothes, SO many clothes, but jeans are an actual compulsion for me. I think I get one pair of jeans for every other item I buy. So at the moment you’d mostly see me in a pair of jeans (skinny and ripped), Converse or ankle boots, and a chunky knit top. The best thing about Winter is all the jackets and scarves I get to wear! In Summer it’s jeans or cut-offs, a tank top with a necklace and/or beautiful earrings, and sandals. Whatever I’m wearing I always have my Apple Watch, Pandora bracelets, and sunglasses on! BUT put me in heels and a gown and I’m in heaven. I think it’s safe to say I just adore clothes, and that if I could afford to dress the way I wanted to, every day would be a fashion show! 🙂

I need to manage my time better so I can accomplish more in the time I have each day. I need more camera equipment, always, and I need to tick off more things on my bucket list!

Kathryn Rossiter

Kathryn is a South African lifestyle blogger and mom of 2 who has been blogging daily for over 9 years! She writes about travel, health, beauty, fashion, decor and family... but not food (unless it's food she's eaten made by someone else) as she is a hopeless cook. She only wakes up early for 2 things... a red-eye flight to somewhere exotic and early morning game drives. She has just finished an extensive home renovation and would prefer to never see another box again. She's never met a chocolate or glass of bubbles that she didn't like!
