It’s not often one gets to sleep beside the seaside… (unless you’re camping on a beach – not recommended due to safety and sand reasons!) So, when I was invited to spend a night at Tintswalo Atlantic, I jumped at the chance.
This exclusive hideaway is tucked beneath the tower of Table Mountain granite that is Chapman’s Peak and the edge of the Atlantic Ocean… which gives rise to it’s name.
Named after the Greek titan, Atlas, the Atlantic Ocean has inspired artists, poets and philosophers with its immense beauty and power since the beginning of civilisation
Even the arrival at this 5-star luxury lodge is on another level…
A drive along one of the most picturesque roads in the world, Chapman’s Peak Drive, led us to the gate of Tintswalo Atlantic. Once we’d parked our car, we descended to heaven…
A shuttle transported us down the mountainside, to a world far away from the worries of everyday life.
For 24 hours we were to float from one relaxing moment to another.
After being shown through the beautifully redecorated reception areas, we made our way to our exquisite Zanzibar suite to off load our luggage and stress!
Fortunately there was time to indulge the inquisitive in me, and I was able to take a quick tour of some of the other, as yet unoccupied, rooms….
All 11 of the private suites are named after islands and ours was rather fitting given our very happy memories of the Spice Island.
Each sea-facing room has a private deck with outdoor seating, a roaring wood fireplace and a spacious en-suite bathroom with the most incredible bath views!
A lot can be determined by a hotels’ bathroom. I aim to jump into every hotel bath I have the pleasure of calling my own for a night….
This was one of the best bathing experiences of my life… and will be hard to beat!
After the brief tour, we headed through the grove of historic milkwood trees that were saved after the 2015 fire (which obliterated almost every other aspect of this hotel) to discover Tintswalo Atlantic’s private pebble beach…
Overlooked by the pool and offering panoramic views of Hout Bay, the harbour and the Sentinel peak, it was here that we took off our shoes and sank back into a hammock to soak in the splendour of the stunning scenery.
We definitely pinched ourselves a few times at our good fortune which found us in such a special place.
As the sun sunk behind the Sentinel, and seemingly dragged all the stress out of our bodies, it was time to head across to the deck for sundowners.
A better sundowners spot you couldn’t quite imagine. By far the most scenic in all of Cape Town! We relaxed into the peace offered by late afternoon light and the soothing sounds of the sea!
A quick change for dinner saw us back in our room, but we couldn’t take our eyes off the sparkling lights flickering into life across the bay!
Behold the beauty…
Our 5-course dinner did nothing but delight… one dish after the other. This was a dining experience we won’t forget in a hurry.
Cape Town locals might like to know that you too can book a table here for a special occasion dinner (or breakfast). Just be sure to book as it’s an intimate space with first option for hotel guests.
After dinner we were welcomed back to our room by a blazing fire (of the contained kind). Even though it can was pretty chilly on the edge of the ocean, we felt nothing but warmth. So much so that we were even able to open our doors to the fall asleep to the sounds of the sea…. Bliss!
To be woken to the scent of the sea and the sounds of waves rolling pebbles mere metres from your window is something everyone needs to enjoy occasionally, if not often!
One of the most special places I have every awoken… and to a pearler of a morning!
As the sun steamed off the awnings and the seagulls called across the bay, we sat down to enjoy a decadent champagne breakfast with this view…
Over, all too soon, our magical stay at Tintswalo came to an end. But not before we tossed our wish stones into the sea, hoping to return as soon as possible! (Preferably in the warmer months so as to enjoy a balmy evening on that deck while watching the sun sink below the horizon – during our winter stay it went down behind the mountain!)
Tintswalo Atlantic captured our hearts with it’s welcoming warmth, spectacular scenery and special soul-nourishing atmosphere.
Every moment was extraordinary and beautiful beyond measure. This is the place to head to when you want to escape, slow down and totally unwind. Be warned, you’ll never want to leave!
