As we enjoy the last few weeks of summer I have been trying to find ways to make the most of these beautiful days and the amazing, wind-free weather we are currently enjoying. One way has been to start most Saturday mornings down on St James beach located only 10 minutes drive from our house! This lovely little beach is perfect for kids as there is a tidal pool which gradually deepens and plenty of rock pools for exploring. We try to pack light and only take our bare essentials – towels, costumes, fishing net and buckets and spades plus a few snacks (At least Brownies taught me something: always be prepared!) An umbrella is great if you have little ones who need some shelter but they can be heavy and awkward to carry down – fortunately the parking is not too far away and all you do is park on the Main Road in St James and head under the railway line via the subway. We try to get down on the beach as early as possible before it gets too hot and the crowds start arriving via train and we aim to leave by 10am!
