“Time out” treats for Moms

I am a huge believer that for a family to function at it’s best, moms need to prioritize themselves occasionally! However, every woman who has experienced nine months of pregnancy and has given birth to a baby knows that time alone for fun afterwards is rare.

Months of care for the unborn followed by weeks of unconditional love and attention for your new baby means that you as the mom start to fall to the bottom of the list very quickly. And it’s only set to continue as your calendar gets filled up with music concerts, sports days, school lifts and endless birthday parties! It’s so important that after a certain period of time, new moms aim to find a way of putting themselves first again, even if it’s only for a few hours. And that they continue to do so as the kids get older – after all you don’t want to get to a point once the kids have left home when you’ve completely forgotten what your interests are!

It’s not easy to hand over the responsibility of your new baby to someone else, but a perfect person is the child’s father! Time together without mom around will do wonders to cement the new father’s role and boost the dad’s bond with the baby as well as his confidence! If dad’s not available then call in a granny, aunt or friend who is willing to help babysit. It’s also very worthwhile developing a relationship with a reliable and affordable babysitter.

I love to spend time shopping the sales, enjoying a long, lazy lunch with a group of girlfriends or going out for a “date night” meal with my husband – and these activities do count as my “time out” as they all take place away from the kids but there is something special about spending an afternoon entirely alone where there is no-one else to care for, or feed, or even talk to! That is why one of my favourite ways to spoil myself is at a beauty spa for a body treatment such as a massage or facial.

Spending a day at a spa or wellness hotel can really make a difference to you physically, mentally and emotionally. The services offered are often versatile and there is usually something for everyone – be it a pedicure or a full body wrap!

Of course, a visit to a spa can be costly, and young families, especially, have to keep their financial situation in mind. For that reason, it is a good idea to check out websites which offer special deals on beauty treatments such as the many group buying websites now available including Groupon. These special deals can ensure that the family budget is not compromised and mom gets the chance to relax a little without having to worry about the finances either.

So what are you waiting for? Why not spoil yourself today! After all moms are the heart of the family and if mom’s happy so is everyone else!

How about you? How do you like to spend your “time out” as a mom? Are you also a fan of beauty treatments? And have you had success with buying special offers on beauty treatments from group buying websites?

P.S. I am in serious need of some zen by means of a stress-reducing massage myself – after I had written and formatted this entire post – it got lost in the ether of the internet only for me to have to redo it! AAARRGGHH

Kathryn is a South African lifestyle blogger and mom of 2 who has been blogging daily for over 9 years! She writes about travel, health, beauty, fashion, decor and family... but not food (unless it's food she's eaten made by someone else) as she is a hopeless cook. She only wakes up early for 2 things... a red-eye flight to somewhere exotic and early morning game drives. She has just finished an extensive home renovation and would prefer to never see another box again. She's never met a chocolate or glass of bubbles that she didn't like!
