Restaurant Review: La Parada @ V&A Waterfront

Over the past festive season we were lucky enough to enjoy a “staycation” in our home town and took every opportunity to do all the things that tourists would do when visiting Cape Town. It was such fun!

One of our favourite outings was an evening visit to the Waterfront to take in the festivities of the decorations and the buzz.

The V&A Waterfront is the top tourist attraction in Africa and for good reason… there really is a lovely atmosphere created by all the people living their best holiday life!

>To round out our evening we popped in to the brand new La Parada that overlooks Table Mountain right in the heart of the historical Waterfront.

This beautiful new Spanish-inspired space became one of the hottest dining spots of the season and our visit confirmed it’s stylish status!

Gorgeous, vibrant decor, beautiful patterned floors and lush, green indoor plants give the restaurant an authentic Spanish feel. Stepping inside the space I loved the floor-to-ceiling jungle print wallpaper, eclectic artworks and intricately carved wooden bar. A mix of Spanish jazz and upbeat contemporary music ensures that the atmosphere is kept rocking all night long.

Upstairs there is a secret whisky barcalled The Durrage where a sultry atmosphere is created beneath the sparkling chandeliers. Here members can enjoy an array of exclusive whiskies and even store their own personal collection them in a private keep that they reserve for a period of a year.

We popped in at tapas hour to indulge in the items that La Parada has become renown for… cocktails and tapas!

Like the impressive interiors, the menu takes its cue from the tapas bars that have put Spain on the global culinary map and La Parada’s tapas plates are designed to be shared!

With so many seriously delicious offerings, it was a tough choice so we opted for a few of their signatures like the spicy Tuna Tacos, Prawn and Ham Croquetas and Grilled Calamari.. not forgetting their Patatas Bravas!

There are scores of other choices to satisfy any hunger – and they’re designed to suit carnivores, vegetarians and vegans alike.

Moving on from our tapas, that disappeared all too quickly, we opted to sample some of their bold flavoured specialities for our main meal including their much-loved Wagyu Beef Burger and Beef Fillet with cauliflower puree and pickled baby beets while our daughter opted for order Pappardelle pasta with mushroom sauce off the Kids Menu.

As we were “on holiday” we couldn’t ignore the delicious dessert options on offer!

We opted to continue our taste of Spain with Churros lightly dusted in sugar with a chocolate ganache dip and indulged in vanilla bean ice cream with chocolate brownie crumble, chocolate ganache, whiskey caramel & chocolate soil as well as a decadent chocolate & raspberry tartlet served with toasted marshmallow, raspberry sorbet, fresh berries & raspberry dust. It was all sublime!

La Parada at the V&A Waterfront is vibrant and dynamic. A beautiful destination to dine at while enjoying iconic Cape Town views, beautiful surroundings and a really delicious menu. If you’re looking for a place to celebrate with friends or enjoy a romantic rendezvous for two you won’t go wrong with a table at La Parada.
