Dinner at Dash at the Queen Victoria Hotel

A few weeks ago I was invited to enjoy a meal at Dash Restaurant and Bar at the Queen Victoria Hotel in the V&A Waterfront and grabbed the opportunity to enjoy a (rather rare) date night with my husband.

Hidden away in a private corner of the bustling V&A lies this beautiful boutique hotel. The streets outside are cobbled and quiet which makes you feel like you are a million miles away from the bright lights of the shopping mall!

We walked through the gorgeous lobby and made our way to the cosmopolitan bar area where we enjoyed watching the barman do his thing and whip us up some deliciously flavoured martini’s – a great way to start the evening!

From there we made our way into the elegant dining area. The hotel is gorgeously decorated which added to the occasion and made us feel like we were on a romantic break in another exotic city when in fact we were just out for the evening only 20 minutes from home!

Did you know: Dash restaurant is named after Queen Victoria’s favourite pet.

We were seated in a quite corner of the 36-seater fine dining restaurant and our meal started with a variety of bread and two delicious butters. There’s no banting here… so I dived right in. Who can ignore a good bread basket?

Then it was time to explore the menu and the tempting treats lying within… and to discover that each item on the menu was creatively presented and beautifully prepared.

For starters I ordered the double baked gorgonzola soufflé, biltong shavings and hazelnuts…. an absolute indulgence in some of my favourite things! My husband ordered the Caesar salad with anchovy toast and quail eggs which he also raved about.

Before mains, we tried three sorbets to cleanse our pallets – Rose, Lime and Lemon, and Apple and Ginger. My favourite being the Lime and Lemon.

For our main meals my husband had the lamb loin with pearl barley, beetroot puree and roasting jus which was tender and delicious. I ordered the fillet steak, which was served with a gorgeous little garden-like salad, spinach purée and jus. It was incredible…. tender and tasty.

And then for dessert we ordered the coconut panacotta with lime sorbet and passion fruit coulis as well as a hot chocolate fondant with orange ice cream and bitter sugar brittle – both to share of course! I need to taste as many items on the menu as possible, no?

All in all we had a lovely evening. If you’re looking for a special occasion restaurant with delicious food, wonderful hospitality and great service, then Dash is well worth a visit… and of course, date night IS a special occasion if you’re parents… so just do it!
