What I…

Positivity will get you everywhere. Running my own business I deal with a lot of situations that a lot of my friends, family and co-workers haven’t themselves experienced. Its very easy for me to slip into “The Black Hole of Emo” when it comes to things not going according to plan and not having anyone around who can empathise with me. This year alone has taught me that instead of allowing the bad moments to take over an entire day, week or month, I will instead focus on the good things that have happened within that day, and soon more good things happen. The same can apply for the blogging world, but I found that when I made friends with fellow bloggers and was able to chat with them about things, it made it so much easier to remain positive about where I am going.

Music, its my bread and butter, my every waking thought and the passion that courses through my veins. I started singing at the age of 6, piano at 8, guitar at 10 and drums at 21. I worked at a CD store when I first left high school and then started my music teaching career soon after. I ventured into the big bad world of being an entrepreneur with music guiding me every step of the way. I have met some amazing people through music, I met my boyfriend of 6 years through music, one of my best friends landed on my door 5 years ago insisting I give him a job teaching music and a bunch of students who have made me a better person. There’s nothing quite like grabbing an instrument and singing your emotions for absolutely no other reason than you loving it.

A love that sits right next to music is my passion for makeup. I have spent so many years collecting and playing that it only seemed right to start a blog focused around my love. I remember as a little girl I knew I always wanted to do something in beauty, but couldn’t find exactly what that was, until my blog came along. So I love to combine the two and create a space that’s a direct representation of who I am.

As with most of things in my life, what I read is unpredictable. I read A LOT of books written by badass business women (Kelly Cutrone and Sophia Amruso to name two), but then I also love to read badly written romantic novels and Fanfiction. And just to add to my sardine and jam sandwhich, I’ll read a good horror story when the mood takes me!

A happy life basically. I want to be able to give my parents everything they’ve given me and then some, as I’ve gotten older and after losing both my grandparents unexpectedly last year, all I want is for my parents to have an amazingly beautiful 40 odd more years. I want to create an empire and be able to ensure that musicians wont be looked at as “suffering artists” any more. I also want girls, ladies, women of all ages to feel happy and comfortable and beautiful in their skin and know that they are unbelievable creatures that can do anything they set their minds to, and that’s what I hope to achieve with my blog.

At this point everyone who knows me is sighing *black, just black*! I basically only wear black and occasionally ill wear some denim. The way I see it, I have a lot going on in my brain and I would prefer to not have to worry about whether my clothes match or not. All black everything with a statement bold lip, you’re good to go babe.

To not be so hard on myself. I’m my biggest critic, I will do something and even if it’s to what I may feel is to the best of my ability, I’ll still second guess everything and say its not good enough. And also, that life will find a way. My boyfriend grew up very “hippie like” so he throws these sayings around on a daily basis, and only recently have I started to listen to him *whoops!*.

Kathryn is a South African lifestyle blogger and mom of 2 who has been blogging daily for over 9 years! She writes about travel, health, beauty, fashion, decor and family... but not food (unless it's food she's eaten made by someone else) as she is a hopeless cook. She only wakes up early for 2 things... a red-eye flight to somewhere exotic and early morning game drives. She has just finished an extensive home renovation and would prefer to never see another box again. She's never met a chocolate or glass of bubbles that she didn't like!
