My Five Favourite Make-up Products

So to continue my series called “My Five Favourite…“. Last week I shared My Five Favourite Beauty Tools and today I am going to share with you My Five Favourite Make-up Products and which brands I tend to stick with. Most of these are fairly budget friendly too!

Here are My Five Favourite Make-up Products

1. Foundation – Clinique Superbalanced Makeup in 01 is my favourite foundation and I haven’t changed this in years – well I have bought new bottles 😉 While living in the UK I would use it daily and it was a perfect, easy to apply, great for coverage foundation. I was working in a more corporate company and felt I needed to be a bit more made up and it’s amazing how having to apply make-up everyday in a hurry really improved my confidence and skills in this department. Now I only tend to wear it on special occasions or for meetings or nights out. Primarily due to laziness and the craziness of getting out the house in the morning. I know I feel more confident when I am wearing it so should probably try to wear it more often…

2. Mascara – Maybelline and Rimmel are my two mascara brands of choice – I don’t have a particular one that I use all the time, I tend to switch everytime I need a replacement and that happens to be every 3 months (when it starts to small wierd). I most often go for brands that offer “lengthening and lift” as apposed to “thickening”. Price is often a deciding factor too. I can’t justify spending more than R100 on something that will be past it’s prime so quickly. I shudder at spending upwards of R200. Have you spent that much on mascara – was it worth it??? A firm favourite is the Maybelline Great Lash as I like the smaller brush and it is a great price but I enjoy experimenting with the others too. What is your favourite mascara? Are you loyal or fickle – like me 😉

3. Eyeshadow is a tricky one – I am still learning how to apply this properly and am not sure I’ll every get the hang of it!! Anyway my brand of choice for this is always MAC. They have the best range of colours – rainbow style! I also really like texture of their eyeshadows and the pretty little single palettes appeal to me too.

4. Are you a lipstick or lipgloss kind of girl?? I like both and tend to wear them together but if I had to choose I would probably say Lipstick! I started out a gloss girl and over the years have developed a bit of a lipstick obsession. But I’m sure I’m not alone, it’s been proven that when the going gets tough, the girls go buying… and it’s generally a new shade of lipstick! I have a wide range of favourites but these change often. I like nudes and “blush” colours by Clinique, corals and berry tones by The Body Shop, the texture of Maybelline and a really great red by Elizabeth Arden for days when I’m feeling brave (or vintage!) What colour is your go to lipstick?? and do you have a signature brand and colour?

5. Make-up – The Body Shop has a really great affordable range of make-up which I use. Over the last few years I have used the blusher, eyeshadow, eyeliner and lipsticks among others. I started using the range as it was affordable but have continued to use it as I have enjoyed using all their products. As I mentioned previously I am also a fan of their make-up tools such as the brushes and have slowly collected all the brushes in the range. A current favourite is the coral coloured lipstick which is a complementary colour to my eyes and looks great – not usually a colour I would have chosen but it was recommended to me by the international make-up artist – Karim Sattar – when he was doing a workshop in Cape Town so I decided to take his advice and am glad I did! (see the top image for some of my favourites in the range)
Another range of make-up I would LOVE to try out a bit more is Bobbi Brown. I have been fortunate to have had my make-up done at one of their counters but at this stage I can’t afford their beautiful range just yet… I really do admire Bobbi’s make-up philosophy but for now I’ll have to be happy to just put it on my shopping list.

So there are My Five Favourite Make-up Products! What are yours?? Please do share in the comments below.
and be sure to come back next week when I will be sharing another of My Five Favourite Things……

  1. I agree with you, I LOVE The body shop products. They have a great selection of goodies. Recently I purchased their all in one base and it works so well – only costs R160. I was lucky to win a Bobbi Brown Tortoiseshell Bronze eye palette and simply love the quality of the eye shadows. As far as mascara is concerned, I am also a fan of Mabelinne’s Great Lash Mascara. It has never let me down. Recently I’ve been trying out a few mascaras, because I won a makeup hamper, and really like Loreal’s 4D architect masacara – but it’s pushing R200 so I wouldn’t really buy it easily. For lips – I like Elizabeth Arden 8 hour tinted protectant sticks, at R120 they are cheaper than lipsticks and you still get the look of a good sheer lipstick with the benefits of the lip protectant.

Thanks for the great post 🙂
