My Five Favourite Finds for June

So June is long gone and we’re already a few days into, half way, at the end of my favourtist month of the year… JULY (Can you guess why? HINT: it’s not because of the weather – although that’s been pretty fab this year!)

As you can tell I’ve been meaning to do this post for forever! And life has just got in the way everytime I’ve sat down to write about the fabulous finds I made in June! SO, before it’s August let me make sure I press publish….

Here is my latest round up of my of Five Favourite Finds

1. Revlon ColorStay Ultmate Suede Lipcolour
I’ve not usually been one to try long-wearing lipcolour but I’ve recently been made aware of the error of my ways…. I tried Revlon‘s ColorStay Lipstick and I really can’t go back. This new product is a really easy way to wear lip colour. Just one slick of the lipstick and you’re set for the day – you won’t even need to take your lipstick with you for a day out! I tried two colours and I can confirm this as fact. The ColorStay Suede Lipcolour comes in a sleek, clear, bullet-style casing. The texture of the lipstick can be compared to velvet or suede and feels smooth once applied to your lips. Normally you would expect long lasting lipsticks to dry out your lips but I was pleasantly surprised. This isn’t a super moistuizing lipstick but it is comfortable and doesn’t feel dry due to it’s “built in conditioning complex” This lipstick comes in an array of bold, glamorous colours. I tried a berry shade called Preview and a watermelon red called Finale – both essential lip colours for any makeup bag!

2. Jersey Boys
I adore an outing to the theatre, the opportunity to dress up, getting out and about (eg. leaving home after dark) and the excitement of live entertainment make me look forward to these outings more than any other! Recently Jersey Boys has been the production on everyone’s lips in Cape Town. And more so in our family as my sister-in-law is a “Jersey Girl” and my brother-in-law is involved as an engineer back stage! We have been hearing about the show for MONTHS! And finally we got the chance to watch it for ourselves from the best seats in the house on opening night!

And “Oh, what a night!” It really is a world-class production with an amazingly talented cast, wonderful sets and costumes plus toe-tapping music that will make you want to dance in the aisles (You won’ believe how many of the songs you will know!!) From the moment the curtain rose we enjoyed every minute (yes, that means me AND my husband – not usually a musical fan). The story of the “Jersey Boys” is based on the lives of Frankie Valli and the 4 Seasons and is worthy of a soap opera but with better music! I loved it so much that I actually went back to watch it a second time, and I would go again if given the opportunity. There is so much to take in and it’s just as enjoyable each time! I can highly recommend you book tickets and FAST as the show ends it’s run in Cape Town on 4 August… Book at Computicket!

scentstation-1340923966 3. Scentstation from Aromatic Apothecary
I won this stunning little aromatherapy burner a few months back at an event I attended and as I already have a burner I wasn’t sure if I should keep it or give it to someone as a gift. It didn’t take long for me to realise that as I am such a fan of using essential oils in my home I should keep my sweet little Scentstation to use next to my bed – the other one is in the lounge and doesn’t quite reach the bedroom! I’m so glad I did.

This winter I have been loving having a beautifully fragranced home. But not only does my Scentstation look good, it’s easy to use and makes my home smell warm and inviting. Burning essential oils also has other amazing properties for health and well-being. I have chosen to use a blend called Silent Moments (also from Aromatic Apocathery) in my bedroom and I after a few minutes of inhaling it’s scent I definitely feel calmer and more relaxed. The perfect bedtime scent!

I have also been burning other oils such as Tea Tree, Lemon, Peppermint and Eucalyptus in my lounge burner that have been known to support the immune system and relieve congestion. Previously I have written about the benefits of essential oils and I’ll be sure to feature more about this topic in coming months as I’ve got pretty obsessed!

4. La Belle at The Alphen
Each time I’ve popped in a this lovely space I’ve wondered to myself why I don’t go there more often. There’s so much to love about La Belle at the Alphen Hotel in Constantia. I always enjoy time spent there – be it catching up with friends or work. The decor is beautiful, the sweet treats are tempting, the fire is blazing, the atmosphere is cosy, the service friendly and the wi-fi free! A great spot for a birthday breakfast, a coffee catch-up or a mid-morning meeting…. and they have macaroons!!! LOVE

Chimpanzee DVD5. Disney Nature DVD’s
Friday nights have become a wonderful family bonding time this winter when we all cuddle up on the couch under a big blanket, light the (gas) fire and watch a dvd together! We are big fans of animation in this house but as my son gets a bit older we are looking for a few different options. Lately we have discovered the stunning Disneynature range of DVD’s. The titles we have watched are African Cat and, most recently, Chimpanzee. The live action movies centre around the lives of a family of animals – in the first these are 2 large cat families (lions and leopards) and in Chimpanzee the story follows a group of chimps living in the jungles of Africa. The story follows little Oscar who has a curiosity and manner quite similar to your own kids! This inspiring and uplifting “tail” showcases the intelligence and ingenuity of some of the most amazing personalities in the animal kingdom. We loved getting behind the scenes on the DVD and seeing how the team of filmmakers made this film a reality – NOT as glamorous as you would image – think lots of rain and mud! We loved this remarkable story of family bonds and individual triumph and will definitely be looking out for more of the Disneynature range!

You can stand a chance of winning one of 5 copies of Chimpanzee from Disneynature. All you need to do is Becoming you on Facebook here:

And then leave a comment on this blog post telling me what favourite find you have made recently!

Hope you enjoyed my round up of My 5 Favourite Finds for June. Stay tuned for July’s list – it will be coming out shortly…. I promise!

Kathryn Rossiter

Kathryn is a South African lifestyle blogger and mom of 2 who has been blogging daily for over 9 years! She writes about travel, health, beauty, fashion, decor and family... but not food (unless it's food she's eaten made by someone else) as she is a hopeless cook. She only wakes up early for 2 things... a red-eye flight to somewhere exotic and early morning game drives. She has just finished an extensive home renovation and would prefer to never see another box again. She's never met a chocolate or glass of bubbles that she didn't like!
