Spa Review: My Equinox Spa Experience

Every now and again as a blogger you get an email that jumps out at you. One such exciting email arrived a few weeks back inviting me to join the Equinox Spa at the Cape Royale Hotel for their Media Day. A day of pampering is not one I was about to turn down!

The Thursday morning dawned and I headed off to Green Point not quite sure what to expect but full of anticipation. After locking my belongings away I changed into a fluffy robe and slippers and headed up to the roof deck to enjoy some bubbles with my breakfast… There was a mix of models, actresses, celebs, media and bloggers all lapping up the sun while waiting for our first instructions. I was lucky to get to experience 3 different treatments from 3 of the brands that Equinox Spa work with, namely Babor (a range of German professional spa products for the body and face), TheraNaka from TheraVine (natural body products using African ingredients) and Nimue (a cosmeceutical range for the face).

First up was the Babor Fat Burning treatment – 2 therapists applying various potions and lotions all in the name of making me eliminate toxins and look slimmer! I checked my body issues at the door and they got to work applying the product and then wrapping me in “glad wrap” for it to take effect. The aim of this treatment is to “gently compresses the skin tissue, helping the highly effective active ingredients in the wraps to penetrate deep into the skin. The breakdown of fat in the cells is activated, improving cross-linking of collagen fibers and restoring the skins firmness and structure. The problem areas take on a considerably smoother, firmer appearance!” While that was happening I was given an indulgent head and foot massage AT THE SAME TIME. How divine! After a quick shower to remove the product I could definitely see where my skin was red and therefore where the product was acting on breaking down the fatty deposits in my skin! My therapists were super professional and make me feel very relaxed and comfortable even though it was quite a intimate body treatment they put me at ease all the time. This was my first exposure to Babor but I’m very interested to find out more about it.

As each person was having a different treatment there were some gaps between treatments which was the perfect time to have a cup of coffee and pancake(s) while enjoying the view from the sunny deck over the Cape Town Stadium and Waterfront while having your nails done using O.P.I. nail varnish.

Next up was a African Wood Massage from TheraNaka. This unique body treatment using specially designed Swarthout body dumbbells to massage the body after being drizzled with warm, nourishing Olive and Shea butter. Mimicking the rhythmical patterns of an African dance, the TheraNaka signature treatment helps to relax tight muscles and the nourishing body butter is perfect for super dry, dehydrated skin making it the perfect treatment for highly stressed individuals such as myself! Although it sounds painful it was anything but….  relaxation at it’s best!

My final treatment of the morning was a Nimue facial. This cosmeceutical range of products is known for it’s “innovative formulations using exceptional ingredients with scientifically proven delivery systems”. The facial I had was a specialised active skin rejuvenation treatment with 15% Bio-active Complex. It is an active, gentle treatment that facilitates dermal rejuvenation. This treatment aims to reduce pore size and achieve a more refined skin texture with visible radiance and vitality. Nimue has specifically designed skin programmes for all skin classifications including those that are environmentally damaged, problematic or hyperpigmented. My skin felt really hydrated after the facial and it was the perfect ending to a very relaxing and indulgent morning!

Equinox Spa and Nimue are hosting a special this Saturday – 19 October 2013 to help you get your skin summer-ready! Choose from a selection of four Nimue facials ranging from R450.00 – R600.00. Kathryn is a South African lifestyle blogger and mom of 2 who has been blogging daily for almost 7 years! She writes about travel, health, beauty, fashion, decor and family... but not food (unless it's food she's eaten made by someone else) as she is a hopeless cook. She only wakes up early for 2 things... a red-eye flight to somewhere exotic and early morning game drives. She has just finished an extensive home renovation and would prefer to never see another box again. She's never met a chocolate or glass of bubbles that she didn't like!
