My Daily Makeup Routine

I was recently asked to share my “Signature Style” makeup with Hung Up online magazine. Which got me thinking about what is actually my go-to makeup routine on a daily basis.

What I realised is that I’m quite a simple girl when it comes to beauty…. Probably due to time constraints of being a part-time working, blogging, mom of 2!

If I’m just at home or heading to the office to work behind a desk all day I won’t wear any makeup, mostly due to the lack of time but I like to tell myself it’s because I’m letting my skin breathe.

If I’m going to be out during the day I will use Garnier BB cream and I use a concealer stick from Catrice to cover any spots.

I wear a peach or light pink blush and I love Stila’s cream blush in Lillium. I’ll also use MAC’s Peaches powder blush or Revlon’s Racy Rose on my cheeks.

In terms of mascara, I will use whichever one is in reach! At the moment, Rimmel’s Scandal Eyes is my current fave. I tend to not really use eyeshadow during the day but recently was introduced to Seashell and Chocolate from Elizabeth Arden which I have been trying out.

I finish off with a slick of lipstick or gloss which changes everyday depending on my mood and outfit. My lips is where I have some fun with makeup. I love nudes and neutrals, a slick of lipbalm, lashes of lipgloss, a pretty pink, a bright coral and a ravishing red. I will rock any of these on any given day depending on my outfit, where I’m going or who I’m spending time with. Fave colours are a bright coral gloss from Accessorize, or any of the Revlon Colorburst Balms. I also love the Rose Melody gloss from L’oreal.

If I a going to an event or evening out with friends or my husband I will use a primer, either Revlon or Smashbox.

I’ll apply a liquid foundation – my current fave is Elizabeth Arden Flawless Finish Perfectly Nude

Cheeks remain the same the same as above although I might use a slighly darker blusher like Le Blush from L’oreal. To finish off I love the Bobbi Brown Bronze Glaze for all over highlighting and a subtle, sexy shimmer.

At night it’s important to me to spend a bit more time doing my eye makeup. I’ll apply both eyeshadow and liner which I don’t usually do in the day along with my usual mascara. My fave eyeshades are MAC’s Woodwinked and Bobbi Brown Bubbly Metallic, Ivory & Truffle.

I’ll also fill in my brows with a dark brown eyeshadow or use the Elizabeth Ardren Beautiful Color Natural Eyebrow Pencil

At the moment I’m loving the variety of colours and the luxurious texture of the new Elizabeth Arden Matte Lipstick range. I’m also a fan of their Rouge lipstick which is a bold red! I only started wearing red lipstick in the last year or two and I’ve been amazed at the reaction it gets when I do wear it and I love the confidence it gives me.

What is your daily makeup routine? How do you change it for nighttime? I’d love to hear what your go-to beauty products are. The ones you can’t live without! Tell me in the comments below…

Kathryn is a South African lifestyle blogger and mom of 2 who has been blogging daily for over 9 years! She writes about travel, health, beauty, fashion, decor and family... but not food (unless it's food she's eaten made by someone else) as she is a hopeless cook. She only wakes up early for 2 things... a red-eye flight to somewhere exotic and early morning game drives. She has just finished an extensive home renovation and would prefer to never see another box again. She's never met a chocolate or glass of bubbles that she didn't like!

  1. Hi,

I notice you use a variety of brands. I prefer to stay with a particular brand so I prefer Bobbi Brown at this stage.

  2. I also use Garnier BB cream for daytime makeup. I mix medium and light. I can’t live without my MAC fluidline eyeliner gel. Best eyeliner I’ve ever had. For night out makeup, I just use Smashbox Photo Finish Primer and Estee Lauder Double Wear foundation.
