My 5 Favourite Finds for March 2016

March is done and dusted and that means it’s time to highlight My 5 Favourite Finds for the month…

This month I’ve loving a beautiful new book, a pretty pair of pumps, a fun new lip product, fab nail polish colour and a face masque that delivers instant results….

Without further ado here are the 5 things that have made my heart sing

1. The Healthy Life Book by Jessica Sepel

I was invited to attend a beautiful breakfast event just last week and arrived on the first stormy day of the year at the most beautiful new event venue in Cape Town now quite knowing what to expect… From the first step I took into The Forum on Embassy Hill, I was blown away. And the surprises didn’t stop coming…

The event was arranged by Women’s Health Magazine and was an informal chat with South African/ Australian food blogger turned book author, Jessica Sepel, who shared her journey from chronic dieter to nutritional evangelist.

It was such an inspiring morning filled with delicious food from her book, The Healthy Life, and great Q&A’s that I left not only with a stunning new book to work through but a desire to replicate her healthy lifestyle for myself and my family.

Jessica is a trained nutritionist with a burgeoning private practice and a hugely popular health blog. Her philosophy is simple: good health starts in the kitchen. Her focus is on fresh produce, prepared simply and with love. Her work with girls and young women has taught her that the common practice of counting calories and restricting food groups is counterproductive to a healthy relationship with food. Her message is ‘get healthy’ rather than ‘lose weight’.

The Healthy Life is fully photographed, beautifully designed, and has 100 recipes, meal plans, and a kind approach to creating better health and stress-free living. Since arriving home I’ve been paging through it daily for inspiration and have already headed off to buy some of the ingredients to begin creating healthier meals every day starting with the awesome Breakfast Balls for a power protein meal or snack on the run! 2. Lancôme’s Juicy Shaker lip gloss in Berry in Love

These arrived on my desk just yesterday but I couldn’t resist sneaking them into my month’s faves… they are too good to resist! These are the newest offering from Lancôme along the same line as Juicy Tubes only better.

The formula contains lipcare oils and the applicator is a unique cushion design and both combine to create a result that is adjustable in intensity depending on your mood and look. Whether you want sheer, subtle shine or vibrant pops of colour you can get it from this one product. Plus the texture is super soft and non-sticky and the scents are sublime – I’m totally addicted to it after just one day!

How do they work? Well, the biphasic texture combines the shine and comfort of an oil with the bright colours of a lacquered pigment which means you can create a look you love…. with a glossy finish and no stickiness in sight!

The four oils that add their properties to these glosses are:
Peach Kernel Oil – softening and nourishing
Sweet Almond Oil – to leave lips supple
Cranberry Oil – protecting and restoring with anti-oxidant properties
Musk Rose Oil – regenerating and soothing

Love this new lip care and colour product for it’s sensorial experience, beautiful shade selection and easy on-to-go applicator which can be done with your eyes closed! (R270)

3. Navy Pumps from Jean Kelly

My favourite shoes… in navy. Yes, I already own a few pairs of Jean Kelly pumps and I probably don’t need another, but these Navy Blue Pumps were hard to resist.

Designed for maximum comfort, made from beautiful soft, genuine leather with a cushioned inner sole, these are some of the most comfortable shoes you will ever wear. Manufactured in Cape Town they have a classic ballet pump shape and show no toe cleavage for those who dare not bare! These local lovelies are a win especially as they are currently on a 50% off sale –> jeankelly.co.za (R299)

4. Dermalogica’s Charcoal Recovery Masque

I’ve been waiting to share this exciting new product with you for a month since I first received it at it’s launch but I held back because I knew it was only available in stores from 31 March and I didn’t want to get you all excited only to be told to wait… this product is sooo good. You won’t want to wait!

Dermalogica’s new Charcoal Rescue Masque is a fast-acting, easy-to-remove masque that rescues tired, lackluster or dull skin and aims to accelerate skin brightening with dual-action (physical and chemical) exfoliation.

Here are some of the amazing ingredients that truly deliver…

Activated Binchotan Charcoal (otherwise known as Japanese Ubame Oak) – great for drawing out impurities, excess sebum and toxins and detoxifying the skin.

Sulpher – renowned for its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties when treating acne, as well as calming and soothing skin conditions like rosacea and eczema.

Volcanic Ash – a mechanical exfoliator that leaves skin looking and feeling smooth and revitalised.

Phytic Acid, Lactic Acid and Mandelic Acid – three powerful chemical exfoliators that work together to not only brighten the skin, but to also speed up cell turnover which will cause an increase of collagen production.

Niacinamide – reduces redness and inflammation.

Chilean Wild Mint – clarifies the skin and refines the pores.

I was so excited to try this mask that I actually applied it to half of my face at the launch (instead of my hand like all the other more refined beauty editors!) as you can see from the pic above!

The results were instant – my skin was obviously smoother and softer on the side I applied the mask to, the texture of my once dry skin felt amazing and even looked brighter… I couldn’t wait to get home and use it all over my face!

I love that this masque does the exfoliating at the same time and saves me time by eliminating that step in my skin care regime. It’s also really quick to use as it only takes 7 – 10 minutes to apply. When the masque dried I just applied some warm water to my hands and massaged it on my face before removing the mask completely with warm water and, finally, a facecloth for the more stubborn bits (just remember to use a dark cloth due to the masque’s black colour!)

My skin feels incredible after using this masque with some slight tingling while it was on due to the actives, but no stinging at all and there was no tightness after removing the masque either. The only negative for some might be the rather unique smell due to the sulpher but I didn’t find it offensive, just different!

I’ve been using this masque weekly since receiving it and will certainly have to consider buying another tube when this one is done. The masque can be used up to 4 times a week but I’m trying to make mine last a little bit longer!! I love how it helps to prevent ageing, breakouts and sensitivity all at once and contains no artificial fragrances, colours or parabens. A winner! (R790)

5. Charcoal Nail Polish from Morgan Taylor

Unfortunately I can’t tell you what the correct name is for this nail polish as I don’t own it myself (it might be Sweater Weather) but ever since I was spoilt to a pretty mani from the ladies at Fox Box at a recent event I have been thinking I need to change that!

This charcoal hue is ideal for wearing in winter as a staple and Morgan Taylor quality is hard to beat as this colour lasted well over a week! Love! (Approx R123)
