Top 10 Gifts on my Mothers Day Wish List

So Mother’s Day is happening this weekend (Sunday to be exact) and if you’re like me it’s probably crept up on you after all these holidays. Anyway I will be making a dash around the shops shortly to get a pressie for my mom and mom-in-law but first I thought I would make a little list of my favourite goodies which I’m hoping will appear before me on my breakfast-in-bed tray (wishful thinking if I’m honest, but a girl can dream!)

So here is my Mothers Day Wish List – lovely things which I’m sure any mom would love to get this Mother’s Day!

1. Pretty things

Basically anything from Poetry! I’m in love with this store and would be very happy with absolutely anything from there. My faves are the pretty scarves, gorgeous Wonki Ware ceramics and any of their super soft cotton clothes especially the dresses. They are also now stockists of Jean Kelly leather pumps and I’m very keen to get a tan or grey pair.

I love this little video which Poetry recently released featuring 9 children’s opinions on what to buy as a gift for their mum from their stores.

What a great idea. So, please set my kids loose in Poetry…. you won’t go wrong!

2. Kitchen goodies

Caribbean Blue Le Creuset goodies would be make this mom a very happy one. Usually my one stop shop for pressies for others, this time I’m eyeing out the salt pig, oil and vinegar pourers, casserole & pie dishes for my own collection.

I don’t own a pie dish and fortunately the Le Creuset one is currently on promotion where you get a cute little pie bird for free! I’m collecting Caribbean Blue but would happily add their new Cotton range to complement my collection!

3. Subtle scents

I love scenting my home with aromatherapy and use various scents in different spaces. A new essential oil to add to my growing collection is always welcome as is fabulous fragrant candles. I prefer natural scents so am currently coveting the Sknlogic body candle with fig extract.

The melted wax from the candle can be used to nourish and moisturise dry chapped skin during the harsh winter months. The formulation is free from soy and paraffin wax, and does not contain Parabens, Sulphates, Synthetic Colourants, Synthetic Fragrance, Lanolin derivatives, MIT’s or Mineral Oil.

4. Awesome accessories

I LOVE jewellery and I’m trying to grow my little stash of Kirsten Goss jewellery, one of my favourite jewellery designers. I’m really keen to get my hands on a pair of her earrings to pair with my lifesaver necklace but I’d be just as happy with another colourful stone pendant to add to that or any other of her amazing designs.

5. A great gift voucher

This is one gift you can’t go wrong with… doesn’t everyone love getting a gift voucher? Money to spend on themselves with none of the guilt!

Woolworths is certainly one of the very best spots for moms, I don’t know one who wouldn’t relish a chance to buy a new outfit, pair of shoes, lovely lingerie or a beautiful bunch of flowers to brighten their day. And if you’re looking to give a gift rather than a voucher you can’t really go wrong with the lovely selection of affordably priced gift options…

6. Beauty bits

I must confess to having a big of a nail polish problem! I can’t get enough of them… so much so that I’m really running out of space to store them all. Anyway I am still a firm believer that the right nail polish colour will improve your day numerous times over and so I really don’t think you can have too many. Revlon have just launch a new collection of texturised nail polishes just in time for winter.

I tried two quite unique ones… Rock Chic is bright blue but with a leather effect which means the nail polish dries with a matte, “leather” texture. Hard to describe here but quite a interesting look for the young at heart mom! The other one which I tried is called Uptown and it is a glitter polish with a difference – this is not the usual little glitter squares but rather flecks or tiny slivers of glitter and is known as Tweed. The colour is mostly bright purple with some mauve too. Again a fun choice for a mom who likes to embrace her wild side! Me, I’d be happy with any shade under the sun…

7. Pamper time

Let me put it out there – a pamper session at a spa would never go amiss – be it for a facial or a massage, a manicure or a body treatment. I don’t think I’m alone when I say that most moms would LOVE the opportunity to indulge in some pampering and preening. These luxuries often fall to the very bottom of the list in a mom’s life due to lack of time and finances so you really can’t go wrong with a voucher to a enjoy a beauty treatment at your local spa or salon. Hint hint!

8. Body products (that work)

You get body products and then you get BODY PRODUCTS. And let me clarify that the second category are not the same creams you bought when you were a teenager! No, once you reach a certain age you want to ensure that the money you are spending is going to be worth it. You want results! One of the brands I love that falls into this latter category is Mio (formerly Mama Mio) They have a product that I have been coveting for ages – Boobtube. What better way to thank the mother who sacrified her breasts to nurse you for the first few months of your life than with a cream that promises to restore your boobs to their former glory. This product promises to keep your delicate skin toned and crinkle-free, plus gives super sag protection!

I have tried their Skin Tight and Goodbye Stretchmarks and if my experience of these two products is anything to go by then I need to try Boobtube next!

The range has recently undergone a rebrand and there are now two sections, the originally Mama Mio range is still around but they have added a Mio range – all the same products, only better as they are now able to add in more active ingredients to the Mio range due to being able to differentiate between women who want to use them while pregnant & breast-feeding and those who want to use them the rest of the time! The range now includes new products like: Workout Wonders – with muscle motivators to energise; Firming Faves – for firming, shaping, toning; Moisturising Miracles – for super hydration. Each product comes with advice on skin fitness, nutrition and exercise as well as a “no nasties” policy. I’d quite happily get any one of these great high intensity body products!

9. Chocolate

Enough said! Chocolate in all it’s forms is always a welcome present for moms. My absolute best is always a box of Lindt balls that I don’t need to share! Selfish? Hell yes! Imagine my excitement when I received just that very gift from the kind people at Lindt! Yes the perfect pamper hamper arrived on my doorstep recently filled with Lindor balls, movie vouchers and a great new book to read! The perfect indulgent gift!

You too can indulge with the current campaign being run by Lindt and Exclusive Books. All you need to do is buy a box of Lindor balls and you have a 1 in 5 chance of winning a book from Exclusives worth R150.

10. Time out with no interruptions

Speaking of indulging in some time out… a few hours of peace and quite in my own home is probably top of my list… Most moms can’t remember the last time they were able to spend a lazy afternoon enjoying their new book whilst lying on their bed in the sun or out on the patio. Daylight hours with no agenda or responsibilities to wander a market or mall (stopping wherever you please and for as long as you like) A sneaky morning movie. A girly lunch. A night out dancing. These are the gifts that truly keep on giving. They maintain our sanity and remind us that we are people too. Ones that have interests aside from our kids and our families – we need to embrace these, and indulge in them, often!

But even if I don’t get any one of the “things” listed above, a handmade card filled with love plus a few kisses and cuddles will be enough. The true gift, for which I am forever grateful, is actually the little people who I share my life with daily – could a person be any more blessed?

She writes about travel, health, beauty, fashion, decor and family... but not food (unless it's food she's eaten made by someone else) as she is a hopeless cook. She only wakes up early for 2 things... a red-eye flight to somewhere exotic and early morning game drives. She has just finished an extensive home renovation and would prefer to never see another box again. She's never met a chocolate or glass of bubbles that she didn't like!
