A wintery weekend at the most romantic hotel in Cape Town – A Tintswalo Atlantic review

I’ve said it before, and nothing has changed since, the Tintswalo Atlantic located on the very edge of the Atlantic Ocean is surely the most romantic hotel in Cape Town!

When it comes to arrivals at hotels, not much beats the drive up Chapmans Peak and then down through the fynbos, taking in the sweeping views across Hout Bay. The only hotel located within the Table Mountain National Park, Tintswalo Atlantic is the place to head if you’re looking to stay in the most beautiful hotel in the most beautiful city in the world!

Wedged between mountains and sea, the Tintswalo Atlantic Hotel holds the most unique hotel location in Cape Town. Every window offers views across the bay to the working harbour of Hout Bay and the majestic Sentinel peak. As far as locations go you couldn’t sleep closer to the ocean if you rolled out a sleeping bag on the beach (and I’d garner a guess that the Tintswalo is a more comfortable choice!)

We were fortunate enough to spend 24 hours enjoying this gorgeous, luxury beach hotel on a recent wintery weekend, but the gloomy weather did nothing to dampen our experience.

If anything, spending a rainy afternoon holed up in a hotel room with your partner, a roaring fire, snacks and red wine is probably one of the best ways to while away a wintery weekend, right?

Our suite, the Zanzibar, is one of only 11 suites at Tintswalo Atlantic, each enjoying total privacy, large sliding doors, a private deck floating above the ocean and a cosy fireplace.

As locals, we were only too fortunate to be in no hurry to leave and explore Cape Town…. Our main aim? To stay put and enjoy the unique experiences of spending time at this luxury beach lodge – the fiery sunsets, the fresh ocean air, the proximity of the waves!

After indulging in some alone time and delicious wine, we opted to get some fresh air during a break in the clouds with a walk down the short milkwood-shaded boardwalk to Tintswalo exclusive remote pebble beach. Here our only brave companions were the wind and the waves – wild, natural beauty at it’s invigorating best!

A Tintswalo Atlantic sunset is hard to beat, so sundowners on the deck is a must (if the weather permits!)

We settled in on the oversized couch with front row seats to the show… accompanied by a large Gin & Tonic and complimentary snacks.

After dark we settled into the plush dining room to enjoy a feast of a five-course set menu…<

It started with a decadent bread board featuring the most delicious masala-infused butter! I could have just kept going on this dish alone… but Executive Chef, Guy Clark, had other ideas!

A creamy soup of Carrot, Ginger, Gochugaru served with bottom of the pack root crisps.

Followed by a delicate starter of fresh flavours in the form of fynbos ash cured salmon served with African mayo, crispy dill and pickled edamame.

My husband chose to enjoy the braaied Springbok served with Poached leeks, Oyster mushroom, Coffee & Butternut which he found tender and delicious with a unique South African flavour.

For our main meal we both opted for the Tintswalo Atlantic signature dish of Chimichurri Bone marrow. Shitake. Beef fillet. Raspberry jus. Textures of potato. Lemon yogurt. Smoked broccolini

Finally, for dessert I ordered the Madagascar dish – Vanilla pod & 64% Manjari chocolate H20 mousse served with shattered sugar & citrus pearls.

While my husband ordered Opium… in the form of poppy seed sponge, poppy seed chai ice cream and poppy seed lemon tart.

Tintswalo Atlantic ‘Winter Warmer’ special package for South African Residents is available from 1 May – 31 August 2018.

Tintswalo Atlantic ticks all the right boxes for a romantic getaway in Cape Town… exclusive, private, remote, wild, impressive, breathtaking, luxurious.

You will never go wrong with this choice as a spot to whisk away your lover (or mother of your children!) to celebrate a special occasion. In fact I can guarantee that you’ll earn many brownie points for this clever decision…
