Spending one-on-one time with each of my kids is so important to me that we have a special name for these special times… They are called “Mommy Dates” and both my kids LOVE these special times together so much. Often they get to choose the itinerary of the date… and it invariably involves food of some sort – sushi, ice-cream, milkshakes etc. But sometimes I surprise them with a special Mommy Date that I’ve arranged for us to enjoy together. I tell them it’s happening, I just don’t tell them what it is. And they LOVE this too! Last weekend once one such surprise… as I took Abi off to enjoy her very first pedicure with me at Sorbet in Rondebosch…
She didn’t know what we were doing until we arrived and then she couldn’t take the smile off her face. At 7 years old she is all about beauty and I’m pretty sure she’ll be heading in that direction when it comes to choosing a career… and I’m totally training her up to join the Becoming you team in the future!!!
As you can see we were both in need of some fancy footwork – our nails had both been polish free for a while and my heels were in particular need of some TLC! (continual use of slip slops don’t help!!)
We arrived a few minutes early for our appointment which was actually a good things because Abi took FOREVER choosing the exact shade she wanted on her toes, but I completely understood the predicament considering the wide range of options available!
Then we settled in side-by-side to our lazy boy chairs and relaxed while our therapists set to work soaking, exfoliating and filing our feet.
I didn’t think her smile could get any wider, but then the staff delivered mini-cupcakes and her face literally exploded with happiness….
You can’t really beat alone time with mom full attention, pretty pampering AND cupcakes now can you?
It was seriously THE CUTEST to watch her take in the whole experience. She totally loved it and looked very at home in the pedi chair (oh dear!) and the therapists were so lovely to her too… even managing to paint the tiniest toe nails!!
And I loved it too!
Spending special bonding time with my daughter without the interruptions of work/ social media/ daily life to distract us was divine and we had a lovely little chat while we both relaxed.
After our catch up I may even have dozed off for a few minutes during the heavenly foot massage!
