Mid-life Musings – on turning 35!

So today I am officially MIDDLE AGED – yes it’s my birthday and I’m half way through my “three score years and 10” which makes me 35…. it’s pretty much all downhill from here folks! I can’t cope!

At least the lovely Abigail K captured me looking OK for 35 just last month in her #CTConfidence campaign and I’m so appreciative as it means I can look back on this photo when I hit 70 and appreciate my 35 year old self! I’ve realised in my 35 years here on earth thus far that we rarely really appreciate our current selves do we? I mean I would give ANYTHING to have my 18 year old self’s boobs right now! Someone should’ve told me that back then… oh wait… I think they did but I was too hungup on the parts of me I didn’t like to notice!!!

I’m usually someone who loves birthdays, but this year I’ve kept it decidely low key… to be honest the day kinda crept up on me after our recent flurry of trips during the school holidays and before I knew it I didn’t have any time on either of the weekends before or after to get together with my girlfriends. Sob. Maybe I’ll get my act together and plan a belated birthday tea party….

At least I managed a family gathering on Sunday and tonight I’m heading out for a date night with a difference… We’re off to watch my sister-in-law strut her stuff in the muscial West Side Story which is on at the Artscape Theatre for one month only. I’m super excited.

Anyway, to celebrate this rather frightening number of my mid-life, I’ve made a two fun lists of 35 things…

Kathryn is a South African lifestyle blogger and mom of 2 who has been blogging daily for almost 7 years! She writes about travel, health, beauty, fashion, decor and family... but not food (unless it's food she's eaten made by someone else) as she is a hopeless cook. She only wakes up early for 2 things... a red-eye flight to somewhere exotic and early morning game drives. She has just finished an extensive home renovation and would prefer to never see another box again. She's never met a chocolate or glass of bubbles that she didn't like!

  1. Yet another amazing, inspirational blog post!!! I’m going to try to make the same lists (although mine will have 40+ items??!! Yikes!!)…

    1. Good luck with your list Jane – It took me a while to get going and then I couldn’t stop! Found it quite encouraging to see what I have achieved so far – even the little things!

  2. Happy Birthday Kathryn
Im 35 in ten days time (7th August) – didn’t realise we are the same age and that our birthdays were so close together
    Happy happy sweet lady
I know what you mean about kind of skipping/letting the birthday creep up… Im deciding if I should or shouldn’t plan an event for mine…. sigh – decisions

    1. Oh wow – just 10 days or so between us!! Hope you have a special day. I was pleasantly surprised by mine. Best bet is to keep expectations low and let the day unfold… Have fun!

    1. Thanks Bailey – thought it was worth reminding myself of how far I’ve come and where I want to go 😉

  3. Congratulations! I enjoyed your lists. I’m also 35 in two weeks and I didn’t realize I was going to be middle-aged…. gulp!

I’ve hired a tandem bicycle and we’re going cycling along the beautiful Lake Ontario Waterfront, then out for lunch sans kids.

Wishing you all the best for the next 35 years…
    Love S
