Meet the blogger behind the blog…

I have been meaning to update my “About” page on Becoming you for some time now and what better time to do that than at the start of a new year! I thought a fun way to do this would be to share a few random facts about me. A “meet the blogger behind the blog” if you will….

So without further ado here they are:

My name is spelt with a K and a Y but it’s NOT Kathy
I married someone I met on a blind date! I was 21 and freaked out a fair number of people in the process.
One of the hardest things I have been through is secondary infertility, which I struggled with for almost 18 months. Some dark days those, which I am glad are now behind me. I now have 2 of the cutest kids on the planet!!
I try to be the best mom I can be and I am grateful for the time I get to spend with them at home but it’s the hardest job I’ve ever had – 24 hours shifts with no time off or sick days.
I could do with more patience…
I’m an ESFJ
I have a great part-time job as a Media Liaison which involves writing – guides, newsletters and website content as well as social media.
I love magazines and blogging is a natural extention of that – It would be amazing to find a way to pay the bills through blogging! Slowly, slowly…
I have a gym membership but am not at all into exercise – I go once a week to keep my membership active but sometimes that means popping in to swipe my card, have a sauna or a smoothie and check my mail…. Don’t judge me šŸ˜‰
Dancing to cheesy music is my exercise of choice!
I don’t like cooking – there I said it – most moms esp mom bloggers are assumed to be amazing cooks. My husband does most of the cooking in our house – I am seriously blessed!
I don’t drink coffee or fizzy drinks or eat crisps – all New Years Resolutions I made and kept! I make up for that by drinking lots of Milo, wine and Appletizer and eating everything else…. I am not know for my willpower when it comes to baked goods, pizza or chocolate!

Time with my girlfriends makes me happy. I need my monthly bookclub to preserve my sanity!
I am definitely more a Summer person but I find it easier to dress in Winter. I think most moms do – might have something to do with being able to hide certain “bits” under a few layers??
I will always choose to go to an art house movie above any other.
This year my goals are to continue to simplify life, to grow my blog, to seek out and speak truth in everything – my life and others, and to loose those last 5 kgs!!
The hobby I most want to improve is my photography and I would love to upgrade my camera to a new Canon 1000D (my 350D hasn’t recovered properly after being dropped TWICE – not by me!)
I will order Eggs Benedict if it is on the menu… best breakfast ever!
I lived overseas for 2 years when I was a newly wed and we travelled a fair bit in Europe but I have seriously itchy feet to go travelling again and it upsets me that travelling from the tip of Africa is so expensive and far from everywhere else in the world. I need to do more travelling…
I made the most definitive decision of my life at age 8 when I chose to follow Christ.
I celebrate my birthday in July…. šŸ˜‰
My word for 2013 is: Acceptance (of myself and others and circumstances!) What is yours?

So why not head over to the comments on this post and tell me more about you, just 5 unknown facts??? I would love to find out more about who reads my blog… Go on, delurk – I dare you!!

Kathryn Rossiter

Kathryn is a South African lifestyle blogger and mom of 2 who has been blogging daily for over 9 years! She writes about travel, health, beauty, fashion, decor and family... but not food (unless it's food she's eaten made by someone else) as she is a hopeless cook. She only wakes up early for 2 things... a red-eye flight to somewhere exotic and early morning game drives. She has just finished an extensive home renovation and would prefer to never see another box again. She's never met a chocolate or glass of bubbles that she didn't like!

  3. Hi Kathryn!

We “met” at the Gemgem mommy breakfast. I say “met” because we didn’t chat but I remember your face and have been following your blog for quite some time.

With regards to your camera, please give me husband a call on 0761151946 or 0215522206. His name is Raymond and he is the branch manager for Cameratek – the repair agents for Canon.

  4. I loved reading more about you Kathryn, with a K šŸ™‚

Thanks for admitting that you don’t like cooking – it’s about time more female bloggers throw a spatula at the perception that we all love whipping up amazing dinners. Yip, I don’t like cooking either.

I’ve been waiting for the Martha Stewart bug to bite but it’s just not happening. My Mr and I often cook together or take turns to make the process less painful. We focus on making fast, fuss-free and healthy meals. The faster the better šŸ™‚

I don’t gym, I walk… briskly. I pump my arms and all like a grandma.

I only function after my first cup of coffee. It a habit I can’t/don’t want to kick šŸ™‚

My word for the year is a mantra – “Go for it!”

    That’s it, that’s my plan for 2013.

    Have a super year!

  5. hey Kathryn, been reading your blog for a while šŸ™‚ as you know šŸ˜‰ Really enjoy your writing. Maybe one day my blog will be as famous as yours… just need to get my readers delurked too…

  6. Loved hearing all about you šŸ™‚

    5 random facts about me?

In 2012 I reached my goal weight after finally losing 35kg, and started my own business to help others reach theirs too! It is the most rewarding and fulfilling thing I could ever do!

I am an insanely proud and besotted step mom to an 8 year old sweet heart Zoe, we are best friends and incredibly close! (Her dad is amazing too lol!)

I have lived in Durban, East London, Grahamstown, USA, Madagascar, Tanzania and been on holiday to Egypt, Zimbabwe, Zambia and the UK. Yes – I have a major travel addiction!!

I adopted a pit bull from the SPCA last year, his name is Zeus and despite his size and “fierce” appearance, he is the ultimate people pleasing lap dog and will lick and cuddle anyone he can! I am committed to changing the unfounded reputation and perception of these naturally gentle and affectionate dogs.

My goal for 2013 is to grow my business, and eventually take over as South Africa’s number one weight loss and health company. Personally, I want to continue Crossfit (which is totally addictive) and begin competing in exercise related challenges etc.

Thanks for your wonderful posts – I really enjoy them!! xxx
