Earlier this month I attended an exciting launch hosted by Maybelline at the Labia Theatre in Gardens. The no 1 makeup brand in the world has some fab new products coming to SA shelves soon and I thought I would share a few of my favourites so you can keep your eyes open for them!
First up is the super cute range of Baby Lips lip balms. They come is an assortment of bright colours and types – Hydrate, Mint Fresh and Intense Care are all protection balms and contain an SPF20 while Peach Kiss, Pink Punch & Cherry Me all have a hint of colour while also offering 8 hours of moisture.
How much fun are all these bright colours! My daughter had been coveting the “pink and purple” options since I arrived home with them (I was asked every 30 mins if I’d blogged about them yet so she could claim hers!) That being said I love the Peach Kiss (purple) which has a very subtle shimmer and which I will have to claim back shortly. In the mean time I’m getting my own kicks from Minty Fresh (green) and extra hydration from Hydrate (blue)! And the best bit of all… the super affordable price! (R24.95)
I’m not usually a face powder user myself but if you’ve been looking for perfectly matte, even skin that lasts all day you might like to know that Maybelline have heard your cry and launched a new shine-free cake powder called ClearSmooth All in One Powder – a powder for a new generation! The product comes in 9 shades namely, Light, Nude, Honey, Toffee, Caramel, Nutmeg, Cinnamon, Mocha and Cocoa. From this list you’ll notice that South African skin tones have been well catered for!
Conceals blemishes and imperfections
Perfects skin tone
I love the neat packaging with a sizable mirror and sponge applicator and since receiving my review sample I’ve added his to my makeup bag for touch ups on the go esp towards the end of the day when my makeup has started to slide around my face….
When it comes to eyes Maybelline are always on the cutting edge of new products and innovation. Eyes have been the focus of the brand since the first day when Mabel Williams used coal dust and vaseline to create an eye make-up product to lure her future husband in 1915! (can you see where the name came from?) Fortunately progress in the beauty industry now means we can create the same effect with very little effort using an assortment of convenient products.
Eye pencils and liners have come a long way and Maybelline are launching 3 new version in 2014! The first of which is the….
Master Kajal Khol Liner
This liner is quite unique in that it isn’t a pencil or a twist up but rather a large, chubby stick with a very fine point. You could almost close your eye over the pencil to line the upper and lower waterlines at the same time! No sharpening is required, but then you also don’t want to break off the tip as you are meant to apply this sideways onto your upper eyelid for a seductive fine line or smokey eye but that won’t be possible with a stubby point!
So what is the difference between Kajal and Kohl? This is primarily in the softer texture that allows for more intense pigment and easier blendability. Shades available in this kohl liner are Lapis Blue, Oriental Gold and Pitch Black. I tried the black kohl (not quite brave enough for blue or gold liner, yet) In the swatch on my hand it appears super black however on the waterline of my eye it loses some of it’s pigment. You can build it up but then be warned that it does tend to smudge.
At the launch I was fortunate enough to visit the nail bar and get to see the HUGE selection of ColorShow nail polish colours Maybelline offer. What is the collective noun for nail polish? My suggestion would be “a rainbow of nail polish”.
I selected a stunning green with a blue base called Moss which I’ve been loving this week – the perfect hue for autumn – I’ll definitely be heading off to the shop to purchase my own bottle (am I the only one who has to buy every nail polish colour I ever select after a mani??) Another very affordable every day spoil at R39.95each. Thanks Maybelline!
