Beauty Review: L’Oreal Paris Revitalift Bright Reveal

It’s that time of the year…. November! The month where we all seem to lose our sparkle. Or maybe it’s because I find myself in my LATER thirties that I’ve misplaced it…. I certainly seem to have misplaced my fresh face and my youthful glow too.

The reason for this isn’t just that we’re so damn tired it’s actually because as we get older and our skin begins to age, it’s natural ability to shed dead skin cells slows down, making the skin appear dull and uneven….

The fortunate thing about being on the (slightly) older spectrum though is that there’s never been a better time to be alive. These days there are wonderful advances in modern skincare science that make it so much easier to fake it – the sparkle (luminous highlighters), the fresh face (dewy foundations), the youthful glow (glycolic acid!)

We’re better equipped than ever to fake it!

A few weeks back I started trialing the newest offering from L’oreal Paris – the Brighter Reveal range from the Revitalift range – consisting of a Cleanser, Peeling Pads, a Hydrating Serum and a Daily Moisturiser with SPF 30.

When it comes to skincare I’ve not always been convinced by the skincare offering of the bigger budget beauty brands. Maybe it’s because I see the bigger brands as “makeup” and not “skincare”? This time I decided to give the range a good chance, opting to use it for at least a month! Here are my thoughts…

The first thing to note about the Brighter Reveal range from L’Oreal Paris is that it is packed with glycolic acid, a natural ingredient made from sugar cane that removes the top layer of dead skin cells to reveal brighter, glowing skin and to correct uneven skin tone. It’s the main go-to ingredient in terms of brightening skin and this range is an exciting new development in the skincare space as it brings the power of glycolic acid right into your home (no more need to find time to get to the salon every month for a peel!)

The range is marketed as suitable for all skin types but my biggest concern about using this range was that the percentage of glycolic acid might trigger a reaction in my sensitive, rosacea-prone skin so I approached with caution… and I think that is the best way to start when trying any new skincare range, whatever your skin.

I started out by using the Brightening Daily Scrub Cleanser and Brightening Day Moisturiser with an SPF 30 in the morning for a few days to allow my skin time to get used to the new active ingredients.

The daily scrub cleanser contains gentle micro-pearls, allowing you to exfoliate impurities and dullness. With the help of the micro-pearls in the cleansing scrub, the glycolic acid is able to penetrate deeper into the skin and remove any traces of dead skin cells. It’s a gentle cleanser and can be used in the mornings and evenings.

I have to say that I totally agree. My skin doesn’t feel tight after the cleanser. It feels refreshed and feels smooth as a baby’s bottom. My skin tone is definitely more even. I honestly have nothing bad to say about this product. I only have one recommendation, as I love to double cleanse, I would suggest first removing your makeup with any makeup remover of your choice. I am currently using the Clinique “Take the Day off Balm”. Once all traces of makeup are gone, then follow with the cleansing scrub. I just feel that this way the product can really do its job.

A few days later I introduced the Brightening Peel Pads and added in the Brightening Dual Overnight Moisturiser (Serum) only at night.

This product contains two chambers of active ingredients for brightening and anti-wrinkle benefits! One chamber contains 4% glycolic acid and the other an infusion of Vitamin C and Pro-Retinol. Pro-Retinol aids in improving pigmentation marks, fine lines and wrinkles as well as gives the skin a more youthful appearance. one chamber contains 4% glycolic acid and the other is an infusion of Vitamin C and Pro-Retinol. Pro-Retinol aids in improving pigmentation marks, fine lines and wrinkles as well as gives the skin a more youthful appearance. You apply this product every night after using the peeling pads.

A week later my skin was looking much more even in tone and texture, more luminous/ radiant and brighter – the power of the glycolic acid was at work!

My favourite product from the range is the Brightening Day Moisturiser with SPF 30. This daily moisturiser contains glycolic acid, vitamin C and pro-retinol which all work to even out skin tone, enhance skin’s clarity and reduce the visibility of dark spots and wrinkles. The broad-spectrum SPF 30 protects the skin against the aging UVA/UVB rays sensitivity and is an ESSENTIAL step when using glycolic acid as you certainly need to be protecting the new skin cells that are being “revealed” after the gentle peeling action of product. I loved that this product was really light and I enjoyed applying it to my face every morning. By this stage most of us know that applying a daily SPF to your face is THE most critical step in your skincare routine but did you know the most NB part of a daily sunscreen is that you actually enjoy applying it, so that you do! Another important thing to remember while using this product is to try to avoid excess sun exposure so I was sure to invest in a sunhat and wear this with abandon whenever I was outdoors. Yes, it takes some getting used to but once you do you won’t go back!

Another favourite from the Brighter Reveal range are the Brightening Peel Pads which contain 10% glycolic acid in pad form. These should only be used at night due to the higher concentration of active ingredient. The pads have one rougher edged side and one smoother side. I used the smoother side initially to allow my skin time to get used to the product, switching to the rougher side after a week or so. After cleansing your face with the Brightening Daily Scrub Cleanser you then gently rub these over your face in a circular motion to slough away dead skin cells and renew the skin’s surface layer. I was amazed that even after removing makeup AND cleansing there was still obvious “dirt” aka dead skin cells on these pads… my skin certainly felt sparkly fresh after this extra step.

Final verdict

To my surprise I found that I really enjoyed using this range of Bright Reveal products from L’Oreal. I enjoyed the experiential side of them – the textures, smells and application, but mostly I enjoyed the results!

My skin felt smoother and looked brighter – and at this time of the year I certainly needed that extra boost to my appearance, and ultimately, my confidence !

  1. By far the best facial products I’ve ever used! Alongside with the extraordinary oil and clay masks. Big up to L’Oréal…
