Dinner for two at Lily’s Restaurant, Mouille Point

One of my very best friends moved away from Cape Town at the end of last year and when she was back in town recently I knew exactly where I wanted to take her to spend an evening catching up… the prettiest new restaurant around (we’re both quite partial to pretty!)

Lily’s Restaurant is located on the main beachfront road in Mouille Point (otherwise referred to as the “Golden Mile”!)

It’s an all-day eatery, open for coffee, breakfast, lunch & dinner, as well as for cocktail hour! We popped in for an early evening meal and found a stylish space with a warm, friendly atmosphere.

The menu serves up contemporary comfort food with an emphasis on fresh, health and locally sourced ingredients.

First up I ordered the Beets option, a recommendation from someone who had eaten here previously. I wasn’t disappointed with this interesting dish! Open beetroot parcels served with picked beetroot, goat’s cheese, pine nuts & balsamic reduction was a beautiful way to start my meal.

My friend ordered the Grilled Calamari which was served with feta & tomato concasse, potato puree and basil cream and it was equally delicious.

For mains we both opted for fish (probably something to do with the sea salt in the air) and my Sesame Tuna served with coconut rice, wasabi aioli, coleslaw and endame beans was quite possibly the best fish dish I’ve ever eaten! It was succulent and tender with interesting textures and umami flavours! This dish alone makes a return visit to Lily’s necessary!

Another big highlight for me at Lily’s was the beautiful, whimsical decor – I loved the crisp contemporary styling and the unusual, quirky surprises.

The whole place had a lovely atmosphere (albeit a bit loud as the restaurant filled up), one that felt like an extension of someone’s beautiful home!

The staff too were wonderful, our waitress in particular was always ready with a smile to see to our needs (and quick to pre-empt them too). The food was served at a comfortable pace, with no long waits, as is often the case in the usual Cape Town hotspots.

Dessert is always necessary and neither of us could refuse the Death by Chocolate option… a chocolate tart, white chocolate mousse, salted caramel, chocolate sauce, caramel popcorn, cocoa crumble and vanilla pod ice-cream…. completely worth EVERY calorie!! And another reason to be back at Lily’s as soon as possible!
