Life Lately – May 2016

So, life lately… it’s been chaotic and crazy. What’s new?

I hate to sound like a moaning minnie but unfortunately the nature of these Life Lately posts is to bear my soul…. well, almost, and it’s not a pretty place right now!

Wasn’t 2016 supposed to be easier, simpler??

Haha that’s turning out to be a bit of a joke!

Aside from the usual weekly deadlines and carpooling craziness, I’ve thrown a renovation into the mix AND the school has thrown our first set of EXAMS right in there too…. to coincide quite nicely for the EXACT SAME WEEK.

Added to that are the constant computer-related frustrations that seem to follow me everywhere I go… intermittent internet, slow-as-shit laptop, website woes and hosting hassles. Fun and Games everyone.

P.S Helpful bit of advice…. if you’re trying to avoid stress in your life, don’t take up blogging!

“It’ll be fun” they said. Joke. Ok yes, the free holidays and restaurant reviews and beauty products ARE GREAT. But what you don’t see is the behind-the-scenes mess. No, I’m not talking about my overflowing beauty shelf and chaotic desk. The back-end of blogging. It’s not pretty. Right now my site is giving me all sorts of sh1t due to the fact that it’s just so big. 5 years of daily blogging with numerous photos on each post has resulted in a crazy big blog, added to that is a rather large amount of people want to read what I write (Yay – that’s good news!) except it means that sometimes people coming to the site (including myself) are finding an empty screen. And like dead air on radio this = NOT GOOD BLOGGING!

So, if you’ve been on the receiving end of an error message I humbly apologise. I’m working on it. It’s just taking a lot more effort than usual because I am technically challenged and trying to figure out what a CDN is, where to move my site for faster loading and how to optimise over 12 000 images! Ya, it’s so much FUN around here…. like last night when I completely lost my cool with the poor call centre dude from my hosting company and wailed ugly sobs down the phone at him. Shame. Poor guy!

The bottom line is that I’m squirreling away here behind my screen trying to get things all sorted, but it might take a while. So please give me some grace. And keep coming back even if you get an error occasionally. My aim is for it to be all hunky dory before we start building. A girl can only take so much stress at one time y’all! Once I get the back end right there will be more regular posts (sorry for the one or two days I’ve skipped!) AND I’m hoping to then focus on making the site all pretty again. BIG DREAMS and all that.

And then as if I don’t have enough on my plate, we start building this week…. and we have to pack up a WHOLE HOUSE to do it. I’ve never moved house. It’s frightening. Over the past 10 years I’ve bought far too much. What this sort out and pack up has taught me is that I really don’t need to go near another shop in forever… well, actually, can I only do that AFTER I’ve refurnished and redecorated please 😉

Yes, we are currently living amidst hundreds of boxes and crazy amounts of chaos. It’s not pretty. BUT the good news is that minimalism is IN…. and I have two bunches of flowers thanks to Mother’s Day so that’s making it manageable!!

And then we have EXAMS…. oh boooooy. The stress of your child writing exams is so much worse than the stress of you writing exams. I know, I know. The teachers say don’t panic. But what do they know????

After a week of panic I’m trying to get some control so as not to stress the poor boy out. So far I’ve written up an exam timetable and found a really helpful website called e-Classroom with loads of revision exercises and mini-tests. It’s been a LIFESAVER – mine and his 😉

Now all you need to do is wish me well for the next month and a bit. I’m gonna need it…..

Over and Out

She writes about travel, health, beauty, fashion, decor and family... but not food (unless it's food she's eaten made by someone else) as she is a hopeless cook. She only wakes up early for 2 things... a red-eye flight to somewhere exotic and early morning game drives. She has just finished an extensive home renovation and would prefer to never see another box again. She's never met a chocolate or glass of bubbles that she didn't like!
