What I… Lady Gretchen

Lady Gretchen is written by a South African now living in Germany. A proudly Capetonian Christian she is married to a German boy and lives in Düsseldorf, Germany.

Her blog is an ‘outlet’ for her thoughts, and a showcase of her love of baking as she is happiest when in the kitchen, preparing a home-cooked meal or baking… YUM!!!

What I…

Know – Life is short! And tomorrow is not promised. So I live my life to the fullest today, thanking God for yesterday, letting go of past hurts and giving my all and everything to the day that is today. I cherish each moment with my little girl, because she is growing up so fast. And I tell my husband and daughter I love them each day (sometimes several times per day), because we don’t know which day would be our last.

Dad, setting the rules

Love – God. My Family. My friends. My Kitchen – although I wish it could have been a bit bigger 🙂 My passion is baking and if I have learned anything in life, it is to do what you love, otherwise why do it. And I so LOVE baking and being in my kitchen. Besides my daughter and husband, nothing else brings me more pleasure that baking up a storm – and of course the whole house smelling awesome! Oh and I LOVE Funfairs – I’m such a kid at heart really!

Read – Stephen King. I have been reading his books since I started high school. In fact, he inspired me to start writing too. His stories are so imaginative and it really does take the reader to a whole other dimension sometimes. I can’t do romance novels. I love adventure and Thriller. My prized possession though is my Collector Edition of Harry Potter Books by JK Rowling. It’s in a really nice box and hubby got it for me when I was 29 years old!!! I’m a huge Potter fan, since my sister and I quite literally grew up with the books and then the movies.

Want – World Peace? Hehe. Seriously though, I could totally do with 24 hours of straight sleep. My daughter keeps me super busy – so my days of hibernation have kinda gone out the window. Oh and a Kitchen Aid – this has been on my Christmas List the last 2 years already. Other than that, God has been really good to me and my family. I have travelled and seen so many places and experienced cultures I never really dreamed of. I have been blessed with a wonderful hubby and now (after having been diagnosed with PCOS), we even have a wonderful, sweet little girl who has my heart forever. My wants in life is just for my family to be healthy and loved. All material things are bonuses and ‘nice’ to have. But to be truly happy in life, that is what I really want.

On my travels

Wear – I used to be a Skinny Jeans and Heels chick before I got pregnant. And to be honest, I wasn’t really sure where I fit in, in regards to dressing my age. Now I find ‘Comfy, Swag’ is really my style. I can finally fit back into my Skinny Jeans, but hardly wear them. I prefer soft cotton leggings, boots, checkered shirts that usually go over my butt, a casual scarf and jacket. Since I live in Germany, we are heading into winter now, so I then do layers. As long as the shirts or t-shirts have buttons so the ‘girls’ are easily accessible for my breastfeeding baby, then I’m good to go. And since being in Germany I’m a boots kinda gal!

Need – A few extra hours in the day. There always seems to be chores and errands to run, being carried over to the next day.

Kathryn Rossiter

Kathryn is a South African lifestyle blogger and mom of 2 who has been blogging daily for over 9 years! She writes about travel, health, beauty, fashion, decor and family... but not food (unless it's food she's eaten made by someone else) as she is a hopeless cook. She only wakes up early for 2 things... a red-eye flight to somewhere exotic and early morning game drives. She has just finished an extensive home renovation and would prefer to never see another box again. She's never met a chocolate or glass of bubbles that she didn't like!
