Spa Review: A girl’s night out with my bestie at the 12 Apostles Spa

I didn’t have to think twice when I received an invite to enjoy a Ladies Night at The Spa at the 12 Apostles Hotel recently… and the fact that there was a plus 1 option made it even more of a no-brainer!

I hurriedly contacted my bestie from high school and forced her to make a babysitting plan so I could treat her to a night out.

You see we’re celebrating 21 years of friendship this December. And I haven’t seen much of her since her baby arrived just over a year ago… In fact, this very event was to be her first evening outing since August 2015! It had to be done!

Fortunately it all came together and we found ourselves heading off over the mountain as the sun was sinking below the Atlantic horizon.

The Spa at the 12 Apostles is a haven. A peaceful, private escape where the world is all white and the only noise is light ambient music. It’s basically the opposite of what life as a mom is like: Tranquil, Serene, Quiet.

We adapted quickly.

A quick intro and then it was time to head to the heavenly changing room, peel off our mom garb and adorn ourselves with the robes and slippers of high spa fashion.

As we completed our treatment forms we helped ourselves to the delicious snacks on offer… probably more than our fair share but who’s counting!?

A few glasses of bubbles didn’t go amiss either! And the most delicious green juice I’ve ever tasted… ok, it had rum in it ūüėČ

It was SO GOOD to have time together to catch up. We couldn’t stop talking and laughing (maybe the “flat tyre” or my tripping up the stairs had something to do with it?) basically we were back to being 16 again and it was great!

After indulging our taste sense it was time to enjoy our first touch sensation…. and we headed downstairs to the Rasul. We had forgotten to pack our swimming togs (don’t forget!!) but were provided with some sexy (jokes) disposable numbers and decided to throw caution to the wind and embrace the whole experience going topless… As it was Girl’s Night we didn’t have to worry about being caught out (except for the odd waiter or two!) but the Rasul was just 6 girls having a good time with their besties.

We embraced the¬†traditional Arabic cleansing ritual rubbing our¬†own¬†bodies down with a skin-smoothing blend of¬†mineral-rich mud¬†which was then followed by dry heat and then¬†steam to help to¬†release toxins and impurities¬†in the body. After about 20 mins a¬†gentle rain shower pelted us softly from above and we rinsed ourselves off ready to enjoy the next step in our pampering party…

The Spa at the 12 Apostles has the most stunning swimming pools hidden amongst the rocks and we couldn’t resist a quick dip in the floatation pool! The¬†warm and cold plunge pools are available to all spa guests inclusive of any¬†treatment and there’s also the chance to enjoy a complimentary session in their¬†unique Salt Water Flotation Pool which offers a¬†liquid, reduced gravity experience¬†–¬†just 20 minutes is equivalent to a full two hours of sleep!!!

Then it was time for our treatments, so we headed off to our private rooms to relax and unwind… Me-time at it’s finest!

First up was an indulgent 45 minute back, neck and shoulder massage. My body has been taking strain from all the lifting and bending and unpacking of heavy boxes since we’ve moved back in to our home so this was so very welcome. I LOVE a good massage and my therapist, Rose, had the pressure just right.

The bliss of this evening was that this was not all…. my massage was followed by an incredible Elemis facial that left me floating on cloud 9!

Finally, we both emerged from our cocoons transformed. No longer tired 30-something moms, but rather radiant, glowing and youthful…. although we did head home and get straight into bed. One of the perks of being¬†in your 30s!

We celebrated 21 years of friendship, but there’s need to wait for a special occasion to treat yourself and your girlfriend. Find an excuse. It can be anything!! It just needs to be done.

The Spa at the 12 Apostles will be hosting these fabulous Ladies Nights regularly where you can head straight from the office to an indulgent evening at the spa.¬†Treat yourself¬†or round up a few friends¬†or even just your mom. I’m sure you’ll find someone who deserves it!
